For The: Kenmore DU3017. It's A nice Buy.
Amazon buyers might like an actual performance comparison as they consider whether to purchase this unit. So I put the Kenmore DU3017 "brush to brush" against our current Panasonic MC-V5217; a vintage cleaner 25 years old. We've always considered the Panasonic to be a "more than adequate" cleaner, despite the small things we need to do to keep it repaired. It has been a nice machine to use. A week ago, our home air ducts were cleaned; never done since the house was built fifty years ago. (really). Even as the technicians blocked off (special tape) all vents to control debris, a bunch of it escaped anyway. Again and again, we swept floors and vacuumed to control debris from spreading into the house. We vacuumed three times during the service and then twice afterwards. The last time was a week ago. Two people with no pets residing in a clean house. The experiment was designed around a full vacuuming with edging afterward. Repeated the same proceedure with the Kenmore DU3017. After each room I would dump the contents of the canister into a bucket. I was "bigly" surprised. A lot of debris: Some carpet fiber, deteriorated jute backing, considerable dust and dirt and very interestingly some faint traces of sand. The different materials indicate to me how the Kenmore outperformed the Panasonic. Additional carpet fiber indicates more aggressive beater rotation. Dust and dirt .. better suction. The bits of sand indicate to me "superior" suction as it is heavier than routine dust. Overall, very impressive at this price point. During the "project", I noted a very slight performance "drop-off". Others have reported "not working as well as new" in their comments. My response: This unit picked up a lot of dirt and it didn't take long for the dust inside the collection chamber to begin building up. My recommendation: Don't be afraid to routinely disassemble and clean the collection and filtering mechanisms to maintain top performance. The "Primary" HEPA filter will get dirty somewhat quickly. Although it is washable, it should not be allowed to become compacted with debris before washing. A tip: after washing the fine dust out, let it dry in the sun to ensure the cloth portion of the Primary Filter does not start mold. I would make a special note: Do NOT allow the canister to become jam-packed full of debris (failure to dump). The inside of the vacuum will require a full breakdown cleaning to return it to a premium performance level. To repeat an earlier comment: Keep your HEPA filters clean for top performance. As I'm always on the look-out for "single points of failure" I would identify three: 1). The canister (flap) hinge (dumping) is ridiculously fragile. Do not open & let the flap drop or it will eventually break the plastic hinge. That would be a very bad thing. 2). The connection point where the body connects to the rotator brush housing. It reminds me of an automotive "U-joint" on a (rear-wheel) drive shaft. It allows the user to twist and turn while vacuuming. I judge this plastic assembly as somewhat fragile. Over-twisting (too much torque) or jerking when releasing from the upright position will (in time) likely cause micro-fractures in the U-joint assembly. 3). The soft hose at the base between the rotator brush housing and the canister (take-up) aperature is very soft. A lot of twisting over time will rip this hose. Try to keep all cleaning strokes straight without "steering" the unit. This will help prevent the hose from tearing. Likes: 1). Exceptional cleaning at this price point. 2). Slightly better reliability when compared to other brands at the sub $200 level. 3). Pet Cleaning tool cleaned the stairs well. Wife especially liked this. 4). Sound level about 20% lower than the Panasonic. Neutral: 1). At 17 pounds, this cleaner isn't lightweight. But the extra weight is one of the reasons it cleans so well. 2). Cord is 25 feet long. Could have used another 5 feet but not a dealbreaker. 3). Crevasing tool barely sufficient to its intent. Not a dealbreaker. Dislikes: 1). "Single Points of Failure" mentioned above. 2). HEPA filters trap about 95% of all dust from cleaning. Up to 5% still escapes. Not a dealbreaker. 3). HEPA filter replacements a bit expensive at $27 for both, as a kit, from Amazon. The Primary filter will last longer than the 'Exhaust' filter. Last thoughts: I "liken" this vacuum cleaner to a high-performance machine. To get the most out of it, you will need to "baby" it a tad and not treat it roughly or abuse it through neglect. Periodic maintenance and care while using, will ensure you recieve the greatest value and service for your money. Overall, it is a buy. It doesn't hurt it was well-rated by the "Consumer .." guys either.

Light , easy to use and works GREAT ! easy to empty too.
This is the third one I have purchased . It all started with one as a gift and this has lead to an obsession with this vacuum. I am a custodian of 3 high traffic buildings and this little machine though small is amazing. It picks up winter salt and summer sand and is a great vacuum. I have just donated one to my church because theirs was starting to go. If you need a great vac this is the only one you need. Thank You Kenmore for such a great product.

A nice vac if you don't vacuum under furniture
This vacuum has great suction -- sometimes too much, but the adjustable vent easily takes care of that. I like that you can run it without the brush turning, so it doesn't scatter dust all over the room. It does a great job on wood floors and upholstery, but I don't use it much on carpeting so I don't know how well it works for that. It's much quieter than my previous 27-year-old vac. My dog doesn't freak out when I run it. This is my first bagless vac and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy and clean it is to empty. I just detach the canister and carry it out to my garbage can and press the lever to empty it. No muss, no fuss. Being allergic to dust, I appreciate that. The biggest downside is that it doesn't have a long enough wand to reach under furniture. The wand it comes with is only 11 inches long; try vacuuming under a bed with that. When the body is folded down it's still way too high to fit under most of my furniture. Fortunately I had an old Electrolux wand and attachments that I could adapt to it to get under the furniture. The claim of a ten-foot-long hose is an exaggeration. If you clamp one end down and stretch it out, it can barely make ten feet. But when it's attached to the vacuum, the vac tips over when it gets to about four or five feet. So when using the hose you have to hold onto the vacuum most of the time to stop it tipping over.

Power galore !!
We had a shark upright. It only lasted two years before it started throwing dirt out that we just vacuumed up. I read a lot of reviews, but wanted to find a vacuum that people still loved after a while. I found a woman who had this vacuum for 5 years & it still worked great. Thanks to her, I bought this one. All vacuums appear to have great suction at first b/c they're new & not all clogged with dust, but this one still has great suction after cleaning all the baseboards & carpet edges in the whole house. My husband thought he could use this vacuum to clean a throw rug. It's a wonder the rug didn't come out bald. It has a light & a 30 ft. cord. Two things that are a must for me. I usually dry mop the kitchen before washing the floor. Then vacuum up the bits & pieces. If you do this, too, place the power button in the flat position. I highly recommend this product.

Great Vacuum for a Great Price
I did a lot of research before purchasing a vacuum cleaner and looked at multiple Shark and Dyson models as well. I would have never considered a Kenmore vacuum, but read several Reddit posts online from vacuum repair techs who said this was one of the best upright cleaners in its price range with better quality construction (plastic parts, hose, etc.) than Dyson. I purchased this in Nov 2025 and have used it a lot now both as a traditional vacuum cleaner and with the detachable canister function. I can tell you that I am very happy with this Kenmore, it vacuums extreme well, is easy to use, and the canister function is not gimmicky... it actually works really well and is very convenient. Even the parts on this are a lot more solid than what I saw on Dyson. I fully recommend this vacuum cleaner to anyone looking for a good upright that has canister flexibility.

Overall Performance Details - From Good to Poor in 8 weeks - Pics to Prove
REVIEW UPDATED: January 29, 2022 Includes 2 photos of carpet up close to show the matting of the carpet (meaning, it does not stand the carpet up, and actually wears the carpet down.) First use is the photos of the table/office, bed, and stairs, and the vacuum. After 8 weeks, the photos of the carpet upclose shows the damage, the flattening, from this vacuum not being able to pull the carpet up by the nap - leaving to a disaster of a carpet issue at 8 weeks. You can tell, the tight carpet on picture 2 is before, and the flat, spread out carpet is picture 1. Kenmore Goal: Kenmore seems to want to do the right thing, innovating a vacuum with Hepa filters and improvements in loss of power. With the goal of clean living and clean health, why does Kenmore still use carcinogenic and non-compliant Prop 65 parts and materials? Additionally, this was hidden - as in, lack of transparency. It's not stated on my Amazon website, probably because I'm not in CA. However the only way I knew this was non-Prop 65 compliant, was when I pulled it out of the Amazon box, and since it was in the box face down, the bottom of the Kenmore box was up, and the label disclosing this was on the bottom of the vacuum box. Environment: 2 bedroom townhouse, 2 full flight of staircases, and only the 2 bedrooms have carpet. Carpet is also not walked on with shoes, shoes remain outside. Vacuum Itself: The swivel! Not good! The swivel feature of the vacuum seems great in theory, but I found that the vacuum does not want to drive straight, it has a natural ability for the canister and handle to migrate left or right while you are vacuuming. This means, you will have to continually apply pressure to keep the vacuum handle in the straight position to vacuum in a straight line. This becomes problematic as soon as you vacuum half a room, you will start to feel the effects of this in a tired wrist and hand. It's similar to if you have gone to a grocery store, and you get a cart that pulls left, and you spend the whole time pushing and trying to compensate for the pull by pulling to the right. Imagine doing that the entire time with the vacuum, with one hand. That is what you get here. Moving on to the suction .... it is mediocre at best. I get how a few people say it makes the carpet nap stand up. It does not. Facts are, that in some review photos, you can see the hair around the beater bar. If a vacuum has proper suction, the hair will be pulled into the canister, and not remain on the beater bar. I have not one hair on my Hoover Windtunnel. While it might give the top / upper layer of carpet a darker and cleaner look, if you look down closer, you will see that this does not reach the deep nap. I've attached 2 photos (before and after) up close to show the carpet just laying on its side. In fact, after 8 weeks of it laying down, I hope my carpet is not ruined. I'm returning this! I tried vacuuming the area in that one photo many different directions each day and this vacuum does NOT suck, it will NOT stand the carpet up. Stairs: What a disaster! Going from stair to stair leaves the bottom of the vacuum dangling as you make your descent to the next step. The dangle cause the vacuum part (bottom base) to swing wildly and hit my wall on the staircase. I've never hit my wall vacuuming. But I went to go from one step to the next, and when I picked it up off the stair, it started swinging wildly. Too much trouble and work to keep trying to get it from stair to stair without this wild dangle. Cord: Excellent length. I don't have to move it from top floor to bottom floor in the middle of the stairs. Floors: I tried this in the bathroom, and again, the swivel gets stuck on a path it wants to take. I was vacuuming close to the edge of the vanity, and the vacuum is pulling right due to the swivel steering right. I'm trying to get closer to the edge of the vanity, which is on my left side, and I back up the vacuum 3 times and redirected it, and all 3 times it only wanted to steer right, even though I've got my hand on the handle for a straight forward position. I ended up having to pick up the vacuum and force it to go the path I wanted. Weight: Seems fine until you have to vacuum a whole room, trying to get the steering straight. I don't think I would like to clean a large living room of carpet with this, especially if you are someone who likes to pull things out and do the whole room. Noise Level: Seems fine, but sounds weak, almost a soft whine, seems a little on the wimpy side. You can tell on the first start up, that this vacuum will never be a EUREKA BOSS - the former vacuum they used to sell before trying to pawn this cheap stuff off as a vacuum to clean your whole house, when basically it's only for throw rugs.! Design: WAF (weird as *) hose holding design. I see a lot of vacuums with the same concept, however on this vacuum, the hose is too long for where they have the placement of the top hose hook, so the hose tends to hang very sloppily, looks already like it will do a poor job because with that much slack it will be hard for air to move through. Overall Performance (Scale 1 - 10) 5. I found I had to vacuum our two rooms, two times each back to back to walk away with the same carpet appearance that I have with my Hoover. So double the effort due to the swivel, and then double the time to vacuum to achieve a somewhat aesthetically pleasing looks makes this a poor choice of a vacuum for me. Tools on Board: I didn't try the tools because I know it's getting returned, and I wanted to make sure I minimized using it since I know it's a dud for me. Price: For $162 out the door (free shipping), I would say it's not priced accurately. I feel a price of $99 is more in line with the performance and lack of features. I didn't find a way to adjust the suction, and knew in advance that there is no carpet height settings. Pictures: I know I know ... you will see the pictures and think it looks great. I understand, but I achieve a better result, with less effort with my Hoover. Also, we don't wear shoes in our house, so the uprighting of the nap of the carpet should be easier than in households that do wear shoes, because of the weight the shoes and surface that will squish the carpet down. At any rate, I did get the 2 rooms vacuumed, and the stairs, but I have one more staircase to go, and I had to take a break. I never have to take a break. I'm very fit, but this vacuum takes a lot out of you.

THIS IS THE ONE!
Bought allot of vacuums in my life. Everything you worry about with a vacuum is solved in this one. It does all the tricks and then some. If you watch the videos on this one you'll see just how vast the array mechanisms on this Kenmore really are. Favorite features, self propel. Yeah, just like the lawn mowers that move forward for you, this Kenmore does the same because of the rotating bar and the suction strength. It really deep cleans. Second favorite feature is the swivel action. It can turn on a dime without allot of back and forth to get where you want. One turn of your wrist and it heads the opposite direction. The length of the hose is perfect! the ability to use the items that come with the machine, are easy to attach and use. The filter is perfect, oh and there's this incredible light that stays green to let you know about your filter. It will tell you when the filter is so full that it's slowing down the suction power. Throw the filter in the wash or hand wash, let it dry and you're back in business. With this Kenmore you've bought a machine that finally takes care of YOU. I'm done babying and working on a machine that I fight the cord, the machine, or the low suction. If you've got a non-carpeted area, you can walk right into that room with the machine on full blast, it won't shoot the particles out the back. The cord let me move into a third room and I was so happy to be done with the chore no one likes. Sweat factor 1 to 10, about a 3. Don't look any further, this is one. Tell 'em Boss sent you.

If it's possible to love a vacuum, I actually love this vacuum?
I have had no good luck when it comes to vacuums, so when my sister came to visit she decided that I needed one of these and I'm going to tell you I've never been so excited about a vacuum in my life. Really good stuff and I have a Rainbow! However, anybody that's ever had a rainbow knows they're clunky and cumbersome and you use them for the deep clean but not for the day-to-day. Well anyway, so I had this vacuum about a year and then suddenly the it broke! Like the powerhead separated from the base. I don't know if it's because I abused it (which is possible...) I'm not exactly gentle with the equipment, however, I love this vacuum so much that I bought another one straight away, and promised to be gentler. I do not like to see the dust collected in the bin. That's a gag thing for me, though apparently it's all the rage now, and something others appear to enjoy. Personally, I felt very good about throwing a bag away back when vacuums had them. I used to buy them by the case so I could. This vacuum is lightweight and flexible and durable (other than possibly what I did to it, which I still don't know, but I somehow broke it,) but I think it probably had to do with a little heavy-handedness. So, if I bought another one straight away you know for a fact it's a good value for the money. You are actually going to enjoy vacuuming with this vacuum. I wish it were cordless because I hate cords and they always trip me up but there you have it

Mind blowing level of clean
My old vacuum broke (50$ Bissell that worked great for me for years) and I decided it was time to invest a bit more into a new one. I did a lot of research reading reviews on multiple brands and styles. I decided to go with this one because the reviews were great - even the bad ones can only complain the suction is too much for their liking. In my eyes that wasn't a bad review, I think people are just improperly using their vacuum. There is even a piece that you swivel to control suction power. Not to mention this is the first vacuum to actually work on hard floor without just spinning the dirt everywhere. I am blown away after one use. The attached picture is what this picked up from my front entrance area rug. It looks like I haven't even been vacuuming that's how much stuff came out. Very pleased with this purchase and I feel the price is incredible for the power you get. There are reviews stating its hard to maneuver and I'm unsure why they felt this way as I find it glides with such ease and moves very smoothly. If anything changes with more use I will be sure to update my review. For now though, extremely blown away!

Great customer service experience
The cleaner arrived very fast and looked high quality and robust Unfortunately for technical reasons it wasn’t suitable for use in my location (the UAE) however the vendor could not have been more helpful and prompt in assisting with the return and refund I would highly recommend Ozmen for good customer service and being a reputable supplier who really cares about the customer
