General FinishesOrange Oil, Pint

When I was growing up, any time I or my Grandpa got a new leather holster we'd condition it using a bottle of orange scented oil my grandfather had in his shop, which he also used to maintain the wooden stocks on his shotguns. Since you only use a VERY small amount, who knows how long he'd had the bottle... He passed in 96, survived by my grandmother, who kept his workshop exactly as he'd left it, so I continued the tradition with the couple new holsters I bought after, but I wasn't shooting much.... Shortly before she passed, I'd quit shooting completely due to finances... When it was time for our family to clean out and sell their home, while I inherited much of the contents of Grandpa's shop, the bottle got lost.Then, several months ago, I was able to purchase a new pistol, and decided to get an old school leather holster for it.... I was committed to giving it the same treatment my grandfather had taught me... I asked my Aunt, who also remembered it fondly, especially the smell, but couldn't remember the name. I vaguely remembered what it looked like, but had a VERY good memory of what it smelled like.... I started tracking down this mystery oil....It took a couple of tries (so now we have a lifetime supply of wood oil), but I finally found General Finishes Orange Oil Cleaner Polish and THIS is it.... I knew immediately from the smell, and as I worked it into the appropriate points on my holster, and treating the outside with just a small amount on an old cotton t shirt, the results were exactly the same!!! When my Aunt smelled it she actually teared up a bit.I know this might not be General Finishes intended use for it's product, but it works BEAUTIFULLY (as long as you do it right, a LITTLE goes a LONG way, and too much will over soften the leather to the point of being useless) but I want to thank them for continuing to make this product that's bridged three generations of my family. ... Soon to be four, when they're old enough and if they want to learn it.
