Review: It's a good read, made me nostalgic of my childhood days spend with friends roaming and playing nonchalantly. Romance with an adult was a bit unconventional and surprising for me but I like the authors genuine depiction of teenage years. What more to say it's a treat and a treasure written by Ruskin Bond that i could read in one sitting. I Hope he writes even more such stories. The Room on the Roof by Ruskin Bond is a captivating and heartwarming novel that immerses you in the world of Rusty, a young Anglo-Indian boy finding his way in the vibrant, multicultural town of Dehra. As Bond’s first novel, this story shines with simplicity, sensitivity, and the author’s deep affection for India’s landscapes and people. What makes this book so special is how effortlessly Bond captures the innocence, loneliness, and curiosity of adolescence. Rusty’s journey, from feeling stifled by strict guardians to discovering friendship and freedom, is beautifully written and relatable. The characters around him are vivid and memorable, and each brings a unique warmth and wisdom to his life. Bond’s descriptions of the Indian scenery—the bustling markets, lush forests, and lively streets—are so detailed you feel transported there. This novel truly captures the essence of youth and the thrill of new experiences, making it easy to see why it won the prestigious John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize. If you enjoy stories about self-discovery, friendship, and the journey into adulthood, The Room on the Roof is a must-read. Bond’s writing is both gentle and profound, leaving you with a sense of nostalgia and a reminder of the beauty in ordinary moments.
