Works great with Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2
After buying my Surface Pro I realized I wanted, no, needed to hook this beautiful piece of equipment to the biggest TV I could find. Unfortunately after laying out all that money for a Surface Pro, I was hesitant to spend another $50 for the official Microsoft Surface Pro HDMI adapter. For $15 I decided to take a gamble on this adapter. It works like a champ. When the Surface Pro 2s came out I grabbed one. This adapter works just as well with it. I currently have it connected to a 40" TV and it works fine. I did have to shut off overscan on my TV, but that has nothing to do with the adapter. With my Surface Pro (not 2) I was not able to get sound over this adapter, even though both mini Display Port and HDMI support that. I don't know if that's a limitation of the Surface Pro or not. I have not tried with the Surface Pro 2 yet. I'm using it with a Plugable UD-3900 USB 3.0 Universal Docking Station with Dual Video Outputs for Windows 8.1, 8, 7, XP (HDMI and DVI/ VGA to 2048x1152, Gigabit Ethernet, Audio, 2 USB 3.0 Ports, 4 USB 2.0 Ports, 4A AC Power Adapter) dock and have speakers directly attached to it.If you have a Surface Pro or Surface Pro 2 and want a cheaper HDMI adapter, this fits the bill.tk

Yes - it works with sound!
I was concerned about if it would work, since there are so few adapters like these on the market, but StarTech's seems to work great! I hooked up my GPU's DisplayPort output into a 1080p TV, and it worked out of the box. Plus, it's a passive adapter which means it doesn't need its own power supply to do the digital conversion.

Works great for 4k at 60Hz
I originally ordered a different adapter and couldn't get the screen to look right at 3840x2160. My Mac kept telling me it was operating in low resolution mode. I tried different cable, TB2 port and different monitor but the results were the same. Then I realized the adapter I had chosen was limited to 30Hz so I ordered this one from StarTech to replace it. It worked great... as soon as I swapped out the adapter for this one I was able to run at 60Hz AND I was able to choose resolutions at 2K that were not showing up with the other adapter. Definitely glad I found this. For the curious: I am running a Mac Pro (black trashcan) with Mojave, connected this to the a thunderbolt port on Bus 1 and ran a 40ft HDMI out to the studio display (LG Ultra HD at 3840x2160 60Hz).

Better than some
I had a moment of weakness and bought a few similar devices in a local big-box general merchandise store. Bad idea. They mostly worked, but there was excess flickering, and signal artifacting when powered down, so that a running computer that was idling with the displays off would wake the displays without sending a signal every 2-3 minutes with no input to the machine. Retiring those u it’s to the “use these in a pinch” box and installing the StarTech units fixed all of that. Refresh rates are correct, image quality is better, and sleeping equipment actually sleeps. The fit on both ends is good and secure, and the units themselves are silent and unobtrusive.

Great Add On
I only ordered this additional item to get free shipping and it came in really handy. I went to visit friends and wanted to watch some of my movies from my Surface on their TV. I quickly plugged this into the tablet and plugged the cable from their TV into it and viola we had movies. I can't speak for the quality or longevity because I just got it but if it keeps working this is a great buy.

Works just fine, just don't think about using it with older 720p
StarTech adapters are my go-to company for almost any type of audio/video adapters.I got this one to let my wife connect her Windows Surface Pro to our bedroom TV and connect up a wireless keyboard to it to allow her to use it from anywhere in the room.Everything connected up fine, however, I failed to realize how bad 720p TVs are at dealing with connections from newer tech. Picture was terrible, any adjustments on the TV or the Surface Pro settings would make things worse.So...looks like it's time for a new TV! lolBuy the adapter. I use it on other applications in my home theater and living room TVs and everything works, sounds and looks just fine.If you have a 720p TV, get this adapter and buy a new TV like I'm about to! lol

4k sometimes?
Product claims to convert mini dp to hdmi 1.4. Therefore it is supposed to support 4k resolutions 3840x2160 @ 30Hz. The product did function at this resolution but not without blanking issues, flicker issues, and random snow artifacts. Additionally slightly lower bandwidths had less issues (24 Hz was less annoying than 30 Hz). As the product heats up the issues become more frequent. It got to the point where the screen would blank out for 5 seconds every 2 minutes. Granted this could be a bad unit but my friends used a competitor product (Accel) and had no issues at all. I borrowed theirs and didn't have any issues as well so I chose to return and buy that product instead.Product was fully functional at HD resolutions like 1080p 60 Hz and 720p. So I suspect the device just can't handle the bandwidth demands of 4k 30 Hz.Amazon was quick to take it back when I said it didn't work properly at the advertised specs. As usual very happy I bought this through Amazon instead of directly from manufacturer or another 3rd party website.

Name brand quality
Bought a set of these to replace cheap chinese brand ones I got with my Quadro video card that died weeks after I purchased, never trust cheap chinese brand adapters, these are still going strong after a year.
