The material is soft to the touch, but is stiff-sided enough to maintain its shape while standing. I use it both for travel and an everyday tote purse.

Not unless you put it inside the bag. They do sell matching water bottle totes.

Q: How long is the crossbody strap?

Q: Is this bag machine washable?

I haven't washed this bag but I have other Travelon bags I have thrown in the washing machine and they came out ok. I pretty much have a motto if it can't be washed in the washing machine or dishwasher I don't need it.
