A woman is found murdered in the middle of the Oresund Bridge, on the border between Sweden and Denmark. Police from both countries are called to the scene and what looks like one murder, turns out to be two. It's a spectacular double murder: The bodies have been brutally cut in half at the waist and put together to form a single corpse. It's also just the beginning of a wave of violence the likes of which no one has ever seen before. Both police forces find themselves in a race against the clock in a deadly showdown with a superior enemy, and no one will be the same when it's over.

Perfect for fans of "the killing"
I became interested in the bridge season 1 based on a recommendation for those who loved the danish version of the killing. After watching a trailer for season 1 on YouTube, I decided to buy the blue ray. For those interested in buying this disc, you must either have a region free blue ray player or a region b blue ray player. The disc is region locked and will not play in region A player designed for use in America. The story revolves around two halves of a dead body found on a bridge on the sweeden and Denmark border. Swedish police detective Saga Noren and Martin Rhode from Denmark are forced to work together to solve the murders. The series is in Swedish with English subtitles. In my opinion season 1 was interesting from the beginning to the end. The danish version of the bridge inspired a American remake of the series which aired on fx. Getting back to the subject the danish version of the bridge has 4 seasons and I will definitely be purchasing the remaining 3 seasons on blue ray. I highly recommend this series to fans of murder mysteries and fans of European television series

Has become a classic series. This is the original that has inspired so many other countries remakes. Watch this one instead.
You have to read English subtitles of the Swedish/Danish dialog. This original version of Bron/Broen (The Bridge) was so good it inspired several other remakes in other languages. The US version just didn't work for me and I think it was because the character that Sofia Helin created in this original version was what made this series so good.Sofia Helin brilliantly portrays a functional person with a mental condition but the series leaves it to the viewer to guess it's aspergers. It shows her struggle to deal with her other detective coworkers when she can't really feel emotion. The murder crimes are dark. She is their best detective. When she has to sensitively deal with victims next of kin she fails miserably inan almost humorous fashion. It's like Monk but only in concept. Not in the approach. She is forced to work with a detective from Denmark. He likewise does not want the partnership. But they grow to be friendsand they change each other. In this sense it is a lot like the two detectives in The Heat Of The Night(the movie). My only complaint is there are many pretty blonde female characters in this show. Sometimes I get confused as to who's who. It's easier for us gentle viewers to keep track of the characters when casting directors choose actors who do not look alike. I guess that's hard to do when there are so many beautiful blonde actresses in Sweden. But why am I complaining about that?

Sweeping and Breathtaking Scope of this 'Bridge' will leave you balanced on the edge with suspense...
Read an article on the internet BBC news and culture site, which specifically referenced this tv series in connection with its overview of Malmo in Sweden, and was hooked. Wanted to know more, especially since Scandinavia seems to be en vogue at the moment, and have seen bits and pieces of other exports from that part of the world, along with a few of the hot actor/actresses/directors on the scene that hail from the various countries. It doesn't hurt that in some ways, this is reminiscent of the also voguish sociopath-like characters that entire series are being built around now: 'Sherlock', 'Dexter', and 'Elementary' to name the hottest ones in the media these last few years, and the many movies that also feature ambiguous psychological characterizations that suggest psychological pathology vs autism vs artificial intelligence. It doesn't take long to become intrigued by the main character Saga in this first season of 'The Bridge', and then to find yourself fully engaged in not only the storyline but the ancillary characters, and with only ten episodes of approximately 55 minutes each, the last scene from the last episode definitely leaves you wanting more. It is telling that this one Swedish/Danish series, which gets its name from the Oresund Bridge that connects Copenhagen, Denmark to Malmo, Sweden, has been remade several times over--relocated to other locales and with other foreign actors in these various other countries. I have not seen the other remade versions, but from fan postings, none so far can compare with this original 'Bridge'. Definitely 'Must See TV'.

Spoiler Alert.! 3 *** due to depressing ending.
If you value your tense denouements don't read this.I liked the series very much, except:except for the last reel, in which the 18 year-old boy we've gotten to know and love is brutally, sadistically tied up and put into a box and boarded up in the killer's house where he suffocates to death. We have signed on to a murder mystery, in which the murder(s) typically occur at the beginning and the detectives work puzzles finding the murderer(s). Usually a loved character is not found murdered in the last scene.I was left bummed out, depressed for more than two days. That's why this warning: get your defenses up.I cannot speculate why the writers did this to us, showing extreme suffering, then the loss of someone we'd grown to like a lot (the Danish detective's son). I won't even try. But, I object. Traumatizing your audience -- in an otherwise good story* -- should not be allowed.*There were several, notably one in particular, red herrings, such as the strangestrange man Anya, the runway, stays with, which, I thought, were NOT integrated into the plot but left too many questions. The new characters came on as if they were new stories entirely. Earlier main characters just fall away. As they do in real life? The characters, Martin and the Aspergersish Saga, are consistent, and interesting.I was looking forward to series 2 but, if they are going to treat us this way, killing a character without even any scenes or time taken for a funeral, to see the effects on his whole family, to give them and us rituals for mourning, is cold. Rather like the detective Saga. The father cries, then thinks about something else and smiles. Bunk.

Intriguing, clever interaction of characters, and open ended ready for series two
I watched this series for the first time ages ago, and although I enjoyed it, there were a few events that were confusing. However, having watched it for the second time, I now understand all the relevant actions and characters. The interaction - or lack of it - between Martin and Saga is so well written and acted. People who criticise Saga Noren have not realised that she has Asperger's Syndrome. Her colleagues make allowances for her abrupt manner because she is a superb detective, and dedicated to her job. Many other characters added to the story, such as Hans, who appreciates her talents and foibles.Someone complained that the series did not do justice to Sweden and Denmark as countries to visit, but this was NOT a travel series. You easily get used to the subtitles, and the plot and subplots unfolded cleverly and with many twists. One comment was that in American detective series the characters have got whitened teeth, perfect hairdos and smart clothes. In all of these Nordic Noir series the characters look real, and that enhances their credibility. I love Saga's Porsche!I shall now start the second series for the second time.I shall

If there were six stars this would get it.
BETTER THAN HOLLYWOOD Just seen it repeated after 10 years on BBC4 TV. The Bridge is exceptional indeed, in that it scores on all aspects. Saga is very attractive as a detective (and I'm not just talking looks). She carries the series. Also: the script, acting, scene-setting, and timing are captivating. The set-up in Series 4 where the guy buys the anti-dote delivered by drone (unexpected) rushes to his daughter's side, ..... Wow! It had this viewer sitting on the side of his chair. What a volte-face outcome. It carries the viewers emotions along with it. The timing/scene-setting had to be just right to make that work. Some really clever minds behind that series. Congratulations to all concerned. I'm recommending it all round.

Wonderfully paced thriller
This is a fantastic show. The excellent, very original, storyline gains momentum and - not dissimilarly to The Killing - takes many a twist and turn before arriving at its satisfying conclusion. Firstly, Sofia Helin is wonderful! She has a great face for portraying someone with a personality type that`s not inconsistent with Asperger`s; her blank expression and short answers are combined with a failure to engage and understand social convention, but her driven and intelligent personality make her a great investigator, who is completely reliable and faithful. Some of her remarks to her investigating partner, Martin, are fantastic. He`s a strong character too, and a likeable one (despite being unable to remain monogamous); in fact, there aren`t too many unlikeable people involved and as ever, the Danish/Swedish landscape and indeed actual Bridge look great...maybe it`s just me but there`s definitely something about Scandanavia that lends itself to these sorts of thrillers...the countries, actors and writers sure pull off a fine show. Season 2 coming Winter 2013, according to "sources".

THE BRIDGE Swedish / Danish
This gripping and violent murder story starts off with the discovery of a women's body. The torso belongs to a Swedish politician, the remaining legs belongs to a Danish prostitute. The sociopathic heroine - Saga - is a committed workaholic cop from Sweden, giving no quarter and pushing leadership qualities to the very limit. Sofia as Saga is eccentric and created another cult figure, similar to the " Killings " Sarah Lund.Saga has a hilarious inability to relate to other human beings and shows a deadpan face in every situation with dense moments.Kim as Saga's companion is a constant surprise as a womaniser throughout his career, with women tripping over themselves into his waiting arms. His performance is brilliant, but makes endless mistakes of judgement in his duties as a leading cop.No doubt about it, this pair drive this movie into all it's action packed scenes. The sizzling sex scenes and nudity burst through this whole gruesome tale of dead bodies littering this brilliant dvd. One of the best movies ever produced with so much excitement blowing your mind away.

SAGA
the body of a woman is found on the bridge linking Sweden with Denmark at exactly the midpoint between the two countries. This is why Saga, a female Swedish detective and Martin , a Danish detective meet each other and are forced to work together.Saga is played by Sofia Helin and Martin by Kim Bodnia. Without the brilliant acting performance of Sofia Helin, this series would be of little interest. Saga is indeed a little special , she is only interested in police work and has rather limited social skills which leads to many amusing situations. Also her sexual habits are rather peculiar.Martin has an annoying grin during most of the first DVD and is chain-smoking but he improves considerably in the 2nd and 3rd DVD.The plot is sometimes difficult to follow but the movie is never boring. Dramatic ending. So, don't miss Saga.
