Multiple Virginia Trip Destinations
I confess that I actually purchased this kindlebook that is Backroads & Byways of Virginia Drives, Day Trips & Weekend Excursions by Bill Lohmann by the October 5, 2018 timeframe via Amazon a timeframe well before guessing that some of the sites referenced might change due to what is currently going on. Still, there are a multiple number of sites and references in this kindlebook to include: Bold Rock Cidery, accommodations with places called Oakland Walton’s Mountain Museum Wintergreen Resort etc., dining places referenced for instance an eatery called Basic Necessities with an accompanying website referenced, chapter 10 about Charlottesville Virginia and nearby areas, chapter 29 titled Wilderness Road The Way to Cumberland Gap, and more.

Byway series is great!
I love the Byway series and ended up buying all surrounding states for weened trip ideas. It has enough detail for us to book a hotel room or B&B, ride our E bikes, have visit nice local food places, learn some history as the same time. Definitely worth to keep if you want to make many short distance weekend excursions.

Wonderful Getaway Tours!
I highly recommend this guide. It contains beautiful photographs and detailed descriptions of 19 ‘getaway’ tours in Virginia. It’s a great resource for those visiting Virginia or for those who are new to the state or live in nearby Maryland or Washington DC.

Not particularly Helpful
We recently took a trip to Lynchburg and Roanoke. I am not sure exactly what I was expecting from this book, but it didn't deliver. Might be helpful more for day trips or for other areas of the state. Also not their fault, but the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed between mile markers 112 and 135 (or similar), so the suggestion of going to Roanoke Mountain is not a possibility. Not worth $19.95.

Not your typical guide book
It made a great gift for a person who is about to attend college in Virginia and will have 4 years to explore!

Fixed
I ordered the book from Amazon and received the 2nd edition. Being from Virginia and having many books about places to see in Virginia, this is one of the best. Appears that whatever was missing in the first edition, the maps in particular, has been fixed. The maps are multi-colored, and excellent; there are many full color photos. Recommended.

helpful guide
It was a helpful guide to give me a general idea of what different areas of Virginia are like. I haven't planned my trip itinerary yet and traveled there, so I don't know how accurate it is.

Gotta go!
The revised edition has maps and nice, colorful photos. I would say more, but I have places in Virginia I want to go see now. Oh, the author does confirm my memory of having seen buffalo from the highway near Cumberland Gap!
