Very high quality optics. Sharp. Nice out of focus shallow depth of field & bokeh. Contrast and color rendition is good.Auto focus works easily, and the manual focus switch was really useful when I needed it.I have a couple of minor complaints.-The lens hood is awful. It has the same feel and quality as a plastic easter egg. It's difficult to turn to "click" on and off because the whole hood just warps as you turn it.-The free clear filter included from the seller broke, but that's okay because I use a polarizer-The lens is a bit heavy. Not easy to just carry around.The fact that the lens is heavy also makes me feel reassured that it's built out of high quality material. It looks, feels like, and performs like a high quality modern lens. In my opinion, for the price, I believe it's the best 85mm you can get for Canon RF.

I'm a portrait photographer and I shoot lots of photos of people, models, dancers, and everything in between. I have several portrait lenses but one noticeable gap in my kit was the lack of an 85mm prime lens. I've always been able to get by without one but 85mm is the 'classic' portrait lens so it seemed like it was time to get one. I saw this new Viltrox in RF mount which is unusual and the price was good so I took a chance with it and I'm glad I did. It's a great value for the money, takes a pretty sharp photo, color is good (although tends to shift a bit towards green on my R5), and the bokeh is nice and smooth. Build quality seems really nice, metal in the right places so it doesn't feel plasticky like some lenses. I'm used to Sigma prime lenses so in comparison this one is also pretty lightweight which is also a plus. When I shoot in daylight I tend to put the sun to the back of my models and I did notice that the Viltrox does not suppress flare as well as Canon or Sigma lenses, but that's not too difficult to overcome with proper placement. For studio shooting the lens should work really well. I haven't shot in a studio environment yet, but will be doing so in the next few days. I will attach a few photos I shot with this lens and you can see for yourself. If you're looking for an 85 prime I think this is a great competitor in the market. Just know its limitations and I believe you'll be able to work around them and get some great photos.

Wow the images this lens takes are amazing for the price. I was very surprised with the build quality of the lens. I do a lot of portrait photography and the 85mm is my go to lens. At 1.8 the lens creates an awesome bokeh and still has a super sharp plane of focus. It’s also small enough to fit in my travel bag. Very impressed with Viltrox.

I shot a wedding yesterday after I got this lens. I'm very happy that I purchased this lens. I posted 3 photos from yesterdays wedding with this lens at F1.8. As you can see they are very sharp with great background blur. Lens feels very solid in your hands. Focus ring feels great. Fits great on camera body. I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a 85mm 1.8 Prime. it's a great deal. Beats Canon 85mm F2.0 for less money too.
