Seems to be air tight and bug proof. I keep them on the counter for easy access and they look nice. The little bone cut out on the lid does not work as a handle so I pry the lid off with my fingers. The cut out is too sharp and not easy to grasp, but I don't have a problem with lifting the lid from the edge. Don't know how much they hold but I got most of a 5lb bag of dog kibble in the large can, so maybe 4 or 4.5 lb capacity.
