If you are a cream and sugar person, do not bother with this. It is not for you.
I am not kidding. I am a coffee nut (aficionado). I love coffee and have been through the gambit of coffees and this is the best grind I have found short of the $40 a pound gourmet beans.I have not seen this particular roast before, but it is dark and rich with oils soaking the beans. When it grinds, the aroma is phenomenal for this grade of coffee. I have now made regular coffee with it in a french press, espresso and even filled a refillable keurig filter with it, and every cup came out great. The espresso has a wowza kick to it!! I have had my espresso machine for a while, and I don't remember getting a kick like this from a cup of espresso in a very long time. The flavor of each is at the very high end of anything you could likely get for under $30 a pound. It beats out Starbucks Sumatra easily. It trumps many other brands I have tried, even the allegedly organic beans from Whole Foods. What is amazing is the after taste. It lingers, probably because of the oils in the coffee, and the flavor is fresh on the tongue even a few moments after you finish the cup.If you are a cream and sugar person, do not bother with this. It is not for you. You will never appreciate the difference.

HMMMM, I missed something somewhere ; /
YUK! I have a feeling after these comments I will get told I am a moron and don't know what I am talking about. I am open to suggestions on what may have gone wrong in the brewing process. I set my grinder on medium, used 6 scoops, the same amount that makes perfect Starbucks breakfast blend and filtered water at 197 degrees.I end up with very weak, almost tasteless, bitter ??? Could I have gotten a bad batch or should I double the amount of coffee.... Maybe Peets is to high class for me and I need to stick with Starbucks. If it gives me any credibility I love Blue Mountain and Kona ; )

Bold but not bitter
I used to work at Peets in college. For me there is no better coffee out there. My espresso always comes out beautifully with a perfect crema. Any coffee from Peets will always be bold but not bitter. I don’t know how they perfectly roast it (I should considering they put me through my senior year of college) but it is magical. Major Dickenson or Mocha Java is my choice of brewing coffee, too.

WARNING: NOT AS DESCRIBED--DULL AS DISHWATER!
I was really looking forward to this coffee as something special for the holidays. It arrived today and I made a pot a few hour later. IT IS THE WORST COFFEE I HAVE HAD IN YEARS! It is definitely not a dark roast and flavors have no complexity at all. Are you sure this is not a year-old batch??? I am appalled that Peet's is selling this and Amazon is carrying it.

A robust cup of coffee at a decent price
This coffee has a dark, robust taste, with pleasant flavor notes. It is smooth and rich, but not too strong. It is our favorite in the morning to help start the day. I am puzzled by reviewers of this particular coffee ("Italian Dark Roast") who complain of its acidity or harshness. I do not detect these negatives. Perhaps one should make sure the coffee pot or press is thoroughly cleaned after each serving.

Expresso FORTE’
Peet’s coffee is Devine. The expresso forte’ is my favorite blend. I was buying from Peet’s store until I came across it on Amozan and I’ve been so pleased. Shops very fresh lower price and delivered to the door. 👍😍Great anytime pickup coffee. If you like Expresso coffees you have to try Peet’s blend. I’ve tried many blends in the last 47 years until I came upon Peet’s. It’s the best Expresso blend I’m hooked. Won’t drink anything else

Not my cup of coffee
The beans are fresh. However, they are too bitter for my taste. I am running a comparison between this bean and a bag I bought from a local roastery. The latter tastes much better although I have to say it is twice as expensive. The Peet's beans are way too dry and bitter without enough coffee aroma. Not my favorite taste.

Excellent for espresso
I wanted to try darker roasted beans than what I usually get (Kimbo Superior - medium roast, excellent stuff, Italy). I was disappointed at first due to the bitterness but tasted some potential. I eventually dialed down my vintage Olympia Cremina lever espresso machine to pull shots at lower temperature. Results have been quite amazing. I am not good at describing flavors but it is only very slightly bitter if you use a lower temperature (if you machine allows for that) and tastes excellent, especially at the Amazon price. I recommend you try a bag.
