Prefect for my active puppy
Did you bring home a herding dog that has nothing but brooms, mops, leaves, and vacuums to boss around? Is your dog obsessed with squirrels and birds? Are you desperately trying to find a choking-hazard free alternative to a feather wand that you can let your dog play with before you waste another seven bucks at petco on a toy that's meant for your cat? Does your pup love to jump but hasn't quite figured out the finesse that it takes to catch a frisbee? Does your dog have more energy than your morning walks can snuff out?If you answered yes to any of these situations, this is an awesome $12.99 solution. We have a 4 month old Australian Shepard puppy and she gets super bored, super fast, and has buckets of energy. I really needed a positive solution. I purchased the large size since our puppy won't be small much longer.I waited all day for UPS to drop this off, and within an hour of it showing up on my doorstep, I was super pleased with this purchase. The contents include the wand, two tassels, and no-fuss instructions. The collapsed wand and tassels are about 16 inches long. The rope of the wand is about 37 inches long and the extended wand is about 34 inches long. It's simple enough to lock/unlock in to the extended position, with dots that line up to show if it's locked or not. It's easy to connect the tassel to the wand, but I plan on keeping the instructions just in case I forget. This is definitely an outside-only toy. And I highly recommend keeping clear of tree branches and cars, I accidentally tangled the tassel in some low hanging branches. It's much easier to use of the wand is fully extended. The large size was prefect for my puppy. She is about 24 inches high.My puppy went *nuts* for this toy. I have never seen her so focused and so happy to play with anything. In fact, she was so engaged, she forgot to stop to take a potty break and peed mid-jump! This is the first activity we've done (besides going to the dog park) that has completely worn her out. (She is zonked out as I'm writing this!)Some things I have noticed during our first play session with this toy: The wand will unlock itself while I wave it around. It doesn't collapse, but I did have to keep locking it. (For that reason alone I feel like I can't give it 5 stars, as this is a brand new toy.) The tassel is *not* as sturdy as a tug rope. It's a bit more loose than a standard tug rope, and it gives a little when my puppy tugs on it. This is not meant to be a tug toy. The directions do explain that. What I did when my puppy caught the tassel and locked her mouth around it, I just grabbed the tassel as close to her mouth as I could, placed the wand on the ground, and waited for her to release. (Which is great because "release" is the newest command we've been teaching her.) I included a picture. I'm only 5'2 and the length of this wand wasn't a problem for me, just give yourself plenty of room!Over all, our first use of this toy was a lot of fun for both me and my dog. I think it'll be a great addition to our walk routine, and will be something fun for her to release some of her energy. I'm happy with this purchase!

Aussie approved
My 4 month Aussie has at least 30 toys...worth hundreds of dollars...most of them (even the heavy duty stuff) broke after just a few minutes and if they didn’t break she would chew them trough quite quickly. We call her Ruby the destroyer since she gets bored with her toys so easily and fast and turns to chew on the house interior. She loves this toy. She chases it all over the place, gets super excited and best of all gets worn out quickly. Not 10 min as claimed in the description but after 45 min to an hour she lays down to sleep for a couple of hours. Too exhausted to tear down the house. We are happy with that toy since taking her out for a few hours a day, running in the garden, playing tug of war, hide and seek, mind games and chewing toys seem to be only short while. And while she already listens to commands pretty well she seems to get sassy when bored. This keeps her attention, powers her out and makes her even pretty beg so we play with her with it. She gets super happy when she catches it...even in the air. Frisbees still have to be mastered but this is a good training. She even brings it back so the chase can start again. And even if it breaks after a while I would buy it again!

Keeper!
My Dal went blind over 2 years ago. We attach a small bell to the end by the toy and she can still play with us and interact. LOVE THIS. Definitely helps her continue to enjoy life and enrich her experience with the world and bond with us through play. Watching her joy and happiness being able to "hunt" and play with us after she lost her sight is priceless.Love it so much I just bought another one for my new puppy Granddogger! She loves it too. There are those reviewers who have complained that it is easily broken. I think that may be because they are using it incorrectly. This is NOT meant to pull or allow you to tug back with your dog. Think of it as a lazer light that you move around and keep the dog moving fast while chasing it -- without wearing yourself out trying to move faster than the dog. When my dog finally gets a good bite on the toy which usually happens when she is jumping int the air after it- I let her chomp hard on the squeaker for 30 seconds or so and enjoy her kill without pulling on it. Then I tell her to drop it and we start again. I was introduced to this tool in one of my obedience/training classes to break up the training and reward the dog. I've had mine and used it vigorously for YEARS both while competitively training my dog and since she lost her sight with no problems - but I never pull with it and I've taught my kids the same technique. Mine is still like new.

more expensive flirt pole for my dogs for Christmas and this more modest one is actually the favorite for both me and my dog
I got both this and a bigger, more hardcore, more expensive flirt pole for my dogs for Christmas and this more modest one is actually the favorite for both me and my dog. It's easy for me to move around and my dog seems more into it -- possibly because it's easier for me to move it in the funnest ways compared to the bigger and more heavy duty one. My dog is a 60 pound border/lab with a strong jaw and this toy attachment seems stronger than the one on the heavier duty one as well (though it still won't hold up to much chewing). This toy is a hit!

Don’t use it for tugging, but instead for chasing, and it will provide lots of fun for your dog.
Because I read all reviews before ordering an item, I knew this wand could break easily unless we attached the toy in a way that it easily releases as soon as the dog catches it. I DO NOT use it for tugging. Our dog did not like the short ropes that came with the product, so instead we use the Duckwirth large dog toy, also available at Amazon. We attach the loop to the duck’s beak, about two inches back (you could do the same with any toy, as long as it easily releases with a tug to unattached side). Our dog weighs 70 pounds and has a very strong bite. We have never had a problem with the wand, as long as the toy is properly attached and she grabs it at the right end. The couple of times she has grabbed the toy right where it is attached, I walk toward her and give the command to drop the toy.I have given this product three stars, since it really is not good for tugging. But it is a 5 Star product for a game of chase.

flirt pole
great for training but pole sections continually loosen and sometimes are difficult to tighten which is annoying when you are trying to keep the pole extended and tight.
