BIG. Has unique applications
I am not sure if this actually is a military grade item, but that might be a good thing. The material is mid-weight nylon. The stitching does not look particularly durable. This does not have an endcap for the compression straps to attach to. Instead, the straps are just sewn onto the bag. It won't take long for them to pull out of the stitching. Not waterproof or water-resistant.This is a big bag. I use it to pack my six man tent. I separate the poles and pegs from the tent, then use this bag to compress the tent and the rain-fly so that it fits compactly inside my pack. The multiple straps really allows for tight compression all over the bag.The sack is large almost like a duffle bag. It would be appropriate for one or maybe even two synthetic three season sleeping bags such as a 3.5 lb fill Hollowfill or Qualofill or other synthetic fill bags. This bag material is middleweight nylon. it is not coated or waterproof. The big size and multiple straps offers some unique applications like packing large tents and big bulky synthetic fill sleeping bags.

Real deal usgi sleep system compression sack
Real deal usgi sleep system compression sack. Made by Tennier Industries. No tears, holes, broken seams, frayed material or missing parts on mine which I got through vendor Army Gear on here. Best price I could find, too. These have a nice durable fabric they are made off. A lot of capacity. Made to fit both the lighter green and black cold weather sleeping bags in it. Vertical and horizontal straps to compress it. I often pack a sleeping back and pillow in this one sack.Other stuff sacks that I've got with cheap or expensive sleeping bags alike; have sucked very badly with material separating from straps, easy to get holes in from weak material, not enough multi directional straps. This sack is what you buy when you DON'T want to deal with those problems. The last one described above, I bought from Army Gear. However the recent one I bought from Hillman was well built but is not the version that has the cross straps. Only the up/down straps.

Real piece of Military used equipment.
I now own the entire sleep system, I started with this and Intermediate Cold Weather Sleeping Bag. And now added the US USMC MILITARY MODULAR SYSTEM GREEN PATROL and The Bivy Cover. Slept a few months ago in 20' weather in the mountains. Warm in the bag, while friends were freezing. Lots of companies say they have mil-spec gear. I have family members that are still using this system in foreign countries. This isn't mil-spec, this is military Used Gear. Recommend this to every one at every gun show I go to.Only down side for this was the individual piece of equipment stuff sack was abused a little too much. Two of the plastic adjustment clips were broken. After emailing the company I bought it from, I had a new one in the mail box 2 days later. Black Star Surplus was fantastic, BUY IT FROM THEM. I have bought the entire sleep system from them now and plan to buy more from them soon. Great to see a company who stands behind their products.

Compression in every direction
THE SKINNY: The selling feature for me was the horizontal compression straps. Key reason is that you can compress your sleeping bag into a smaller cylinder instead of a space-eating cannon ball. Also, when they say military surplus, they weren't lying. Mine not only came with faint wear signs, but had a USMC thing stuck to it. I would have cared, but this bag is as tough as nails. One thing anyone purchasing this thing should know, is that it's huge, as in too huge to cinch down if you have a more compact sleeping bag. So, if you have a 20 degree rated mummy sleeping bag or a 30 degree rectangular sleeping bag, (I had both and both fit pretty well) this thing works for you.PROS:IndestructablePlenty of CompressionCONS:Too big for practically sized sleeping bags for hikersCame dirtySUMMARY: Recommend ONLY as a camping sleeping bag compression sack if you have a larger sleeping bag.

Designed for military Modular Sleep System (MSS)
I have purchased four of these compression bags for the sleeping bags that my son and I use. They are big, probably too big for smaller, easily compressible sleeping bags. They are designed to hold the MSS which is actually a 3 bag, use what you need, when you need sleeping bag system. Those fit in these bags nicely as will the bulky and heavier rectangular sleeping bags. I have a 4 lb. fill Cabela's bag in one of mine. All of mine arrived showing signs of use and wear but even the one that I replaced the drawcord on will probably outlast one and or possibly two new imported compression sacks that would cost you more. They are all black except for the green instruction label so they aren't as pretty as the new commercial ones either but functionality trumps appearance every time in this type of gear.
