## Description

Camping Stove with Carry Bag, Rocket Stove Wood Burning, Portable Charcoal Outdoor Cooking Stove for Backpacking Grill, Picnic, BBQ, Hunting, Fishing, with Wood Holder : desertcart.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors

Review: Rocket stoves are amazing - The insulation is sealed in-between the interlayer and outer layer metal. The insulation and cast iron will make it heavy. The carry bag makes it easier to carry. Quality and workmanships is good. Gives off heat from the insulation that is stored heat after wood has burned. Burns many types of fuel besides wood and branches, leaves, nut shells, dried dung, biomass, charcoal, wood pellets, cardboard, etc., very efficient. I use a long cast iron square flat plate on top, then put my pots and pans on top of this, so my pots stay clean. This works really well.
Review: Make sure it breathes for a clean burn - As I was shopping for a rocket stove a found a lot of reviewers complain about smokey stoves, but in my experience that usually indicative of incomplete combustion. The same happened with this stove initially, but I wound up tinkering with my approach and got a really nice virtually smokeless cooking experience. The stove is fairly hefty so don't expect to go backpacking with it, but otherwise I appreciate the mass; it'll not be prone to blowing over or easily toppled, and speaks to me of solid construction. The stove's outside does get warm, but due to the insulation it never got hot so accidental burns due to brief contact seem unlikely. To be honest I'm a bit wary of the the attachment of the handles to the sides, but they solid enough. One area I'd like to see improvement in would be the shape of the grip on the handles-- it seems like they could be thicker for a more comfortable grip, or perhaps done in silicone rubber to be a bit more comfortable, but that's a small niggle. My first attempt to use the stove was more just to see it in action rather than use it, and since I didn't want it running for long I didn't make any serious effort to get the fire going well. Consequently it was a smokey affair, and I thought I had either used too wet wood or hadn't fired it up well enough. My second attempt involved actually making my dinner, so I wanted to get a proper fire going. I took the time to chop off some wood chips from a log to use atop my starters, and then made sure I had a decently dried piece of wood as I didn't want to be messing about much. This worked much better, and I got a nice fire going pretty quickly, and it was largely smoke-free. This wasn't constantly the case as I did have to blow on it once or twice to heat it up until I realized that I hadn't oriented the stove properly in relation to the direction of the wind. Once I rotated the stove so that the breeze blew into the open door I had no more problems having the stove remain smoke-free and had a nice heat. Upon reflection, I suppose it should have been obvious to orient the stove that way from the beginning. I had purchased a heat diffuser plate as my camping cookware is thin and I figured it would help avoid extreme hotspots in the pan given the smallish area where the heat comes up, but I used it in this test where I cooked with my thick-bottomed kitchen pans. That all worked just fine-- the stove got both the diffuser and the pan nice and hot. I'd recommend the combo since only the diffuser got sooty, not the pan, so it wasn't a bit issue to clean. The carry bag is welcome, although being synthetic I feel I need to let the stove cool a good bit before I put it in to avoid melting and/or unintentional combustion. It holds both the log rack and stove, and there's also a pocket on the front that is perfect to hold the diffuser and probably some tongs, so it's quite useful. I'm going to do a bigger challenge tonight and see how it handles a large pan. But I'm pretty pleased with this stove.
