German For Dummies, (with CD)

We bought this book AND German DeMystiefied. I suppose you could do one or the other; we just wanted two different takes on the learning process. Both come with CDs which are extremely helpful for accent and pronounciations. It would be nice if the book was a little smaller in size (both books are the same physical size) so you could carry them around with you, but with my "old" eyes, I wouldn't be able to read a smaller one anyway. I will definitely take one or both of these back to Germany with me (they may have to stay in the car) however, if I continue at the pace I'm going, I may not need to. I've always had good luck with the "Dummies" books due to the entertainment factor. This just makes learning a new language fun. I believe this would be good for kids too (at least those who already have a good handle on the English language).

No one seriously expects to learn a foreign language just from reading a book, but if you’ve had formal training in German and need a quick refresher for, say, a business trip, this book is a good resource. It not only provides the memory jogging you seek but also gives a taste of colloquial German that a college course might omit. The book has reminders about German’s many “false friends”—words that are spelled the same in German and English but have much different meanings (e.g., also, fast, Gift, Kind), and it includes practical information, such as how to get medical help or the fact that museums typically are closed on Mondays.

This is really well organized with helpful language and travel tips. I took a German classa few years ago at a local university and enjoyed it, but it was geared to young people. Ihave also used "Learn in your car German" cds for several years. But these still left mewith very inadequate skills for what I wanted for a trip to Germany,The German for Dummies book and cd is excellent - it helps with pronunciation, communicationand culture.This book gives me the tools to get the most of a visit to my great-grandfather's place of birth.

This is a very helpful book. The best part is the CD. Without the CD, it is hard to figure out how to pronounce the words. The material is very well organized. The subject material is varied and useful. I feel like when I am finished with the book,I will be able to have short conversations with German people. I like the games and puzzle too. It makes learning more fun. I recommend this book to any one who wants to converse in German. It is an excellent beginning!I purchased the book from AmaZon. I like the ease that you can order from Amazon. I also like the fact you can obtain used books and save a little money.

The book said it had a CD included and then in tiny print said because it was used that it might not. It didn’t have CD. It should have said it had no CD. The price was too high for a used book with no CD.

One of my coworkers purchased a German Shepherd dog a few months ago. The dog is eight years old and had actually been raised in Germany. The dog only understands commands in German. The family that bought the dog is from Puerto Rico and only speak Spanish and English, but no German. They were having a hard time communicating effectively with the dog. I bought "German for Dummies" as a way to facilitate their learning just enough German to be able to work with their dog. The whole family is enjoying learning German now and working with their dog.

I purchased this to help with a German Class for school but it actually is more for conversations and phrases than what I needed it for. It is handy though for my continuing to learn.

This book is very helpful to learn german language. I personally thank Sai books for taking pain in searching the book,which was not available in the market. They provided it in a nice & neat condition. Moreover in time & at the same quoted price. The service of Sai books was purely satisfactory.

I love this book, seriously, it's funny, it's entertaining, I don't know how well it can work for people with 0 knowledge of German, but I think it'd work pretty well, but for people like me, who have studied for a while, it's pure gold, cos it made me go like "ahh..so that is WHY this is like this...ohh"
