Smelly & crumbly! Does not compare to "THE" kinetic sand. Do not recommend.
My kids LOVE kinetic sand. I do too - such a fun way to get in some sensory exploration! I was looking to bump up their supply and got quite excited when I found this 12 lb box for such a great price. The reviews seemed great and plentiful, so I went for it. The color is vibrant, and I liked that it came packaged in several different smaller packages. BUT, that's where the praise ends. I immediately noticed it was drier than the "real" kinetic sand. I thought maybe it would become more flexible after a bit of play since it was so tightly packed in the box, but it did not. The other huge downfall and, quite honestly, the dealbreaker for me, is that it STINKS! It has a strong smell that does not go away. We played with ours a few different times outside over the course of several months and the smell has yet to go away. Sadly, we ordered the blue color and had some blue kinetic sand, which we mixed in with this after the first time playing with it. Now our good stuff is ruined and we are tossing this as well. I finally just broke down and bought some of the real stuff so I can throw this away. Disappointing! Do not recommend. Also, the box was a bit smashed when it arrived. The sand was, of course, fine, but one of the plastic sandcastle molds was broken.

Dry sand
I bought a different batch of kinetic sand from the actual brand and it was great. The texture was easy to mold and had the right amount of moisture.I thought that this kinetic sand backed by National Geographic would be the same so I bought a large quantity and was really disappointed. It was dry out of the package and even when trying to rehydrate the product per kinetic sands directions, the texture was never the same as the previously bought portion. When it came to cleanup, it was like cleaning regular sand instead of being able to use the kinetic sand to clump together for easier cleanup. I don’t know if it is just a bad batch or they’re slipping on quality. Just wasted money on this.

Pretty good
There are tons of bad reviews that I didn’t look at before ordering so I was worried but I got it today and it’s pretty good. I bought the 12 pound blue pack and it’s pretty similar to the kinetic sand brand. So maybe they changed their recipe considering the bad reviews were mostly from 2017-2018?? Idk.Only difference is between the two is that the kinetic brand is more like play dough/slime like in how it sticks together while the National Geographic sand falls apart more easily. It’s hard to describe, if you have some kinetic brand sand take a small handful and play with it in your hands for like 5 to 10 mins and it’ll get softer and start falling apart more easily and that’s basically what this sand will be.Only con is that the grain is very fine so there will be tiny grains left on your hand so it’s a little messy but still not bad

We love this kenetic sand the most, and we have used many kinds before!
This is a LOT of sand! It is so fantastic! You see we have been going through boxes of the sand we normally buy from the local toy store. It never seems to last though.... we always need more. This time we got some large, shallow, square containers from Costco that snap closed and we got some sand toys and just purchased this sand. We are still on the first bag after a month! I am thrilled. This works just like the common kenetic sand! Kids and adults love it! As long as it doesn't get wet, it comes out of carpet easy too! (unlike play dough that is such a pain to get out of carpet!) When ever we run out, we will be ordering this very one again!

Dont Think Twice ,Get IT!
The media could not be loaded. I Bought this for my 5 year old and 3 year old . The feel of the sand is very soft and almost moves on its on with light gentle touch. The sand can also form in to a hard texture by pressing into hands or hollow containers. I highly recommend this, for it is a good time waster for kids to play ,and it is very good for touch sensory for learning. It can be messy ,but a area to contain sand works great!

Paid for 12lbs, got only 10lbs.
I received 5 x 2lbs packages for a total of 10lbs. There should have been a sixth package (for 12 lbs). It came in a non-description box, so I don’t know if this was an omission or a purposeful scam, but I triple checked on two scales (not 5 x 2.4lbs (which would be an usual way to divide), but definitely 5 x 2lbs). Not worth repackaging and sending back for the difference, but definitely didn’t get what I paid for.

We love using kinetic sand as sensory play for our two ...
We love using kinetic sand as sensory play for our two young children. We've used another, more expensive brand and decided to give this a try as it was much cheaper. I can say without question that I'm going back to the more expensive brand. This National Geographic play sand is hard to mold and manipulate, stains everything, including skin and clothing, and also, makes tile and wood floors very slippery. I don't mean the sand itself makes it slippery, but after my children have played in it and then walk around, a residue from the sand gets on the floors and makes it treacherous. For those who have already purchased it, I found that mixing it with some of the older (different brand) kinetic sand I previously purchased made the consistency a bit more pliable. Before doing so, my three year old disliked the texture so much that he wouldn't even play with it.

crumbly and dry
Bought 12 lbs of this (12 pounds....that's how much confidence I had in Nat'l Geog.). Thought it would be OK since it is branded as a "National Geographic" product. Previously used a different brand and loved it, but just curious about this one. I have thrown this crumbly sand all away. It was crumbly, dry, wouldn't hold shape, kids couldn't successfully use tools with it, didn't even have a good sensory feel. It's all over the house, rugs, shoes, clothing and hard to pick up. The 'other' brand's kinetic sand was easy to collect since a wad of it could be used to pick up another wad, it held its shape, had a good feel, and was visually kinetic.
