Surf Nazis Must Die!

I must say this is one of my all-time favorite films. It's beautifully filmed and choreographed, with interesting characters. It also features one of the best film scores of all time. However, it is probably not what people expect given the title and cover art. This is more of an artistic work in independent film territory, than the regular sorts of pulp films put out by Troma. It doesn't really fit in well with the rest of their catalogue. And while the Toxic Avenger is slightly amusing, I'm not much of a fan of Troma's other work, so perhaps that is saying something.This is also not a film for the ADD generation. It has a leisurely pace and isn't non-stop explosions, which is why I imagine so many people here find it boring. They would probably find "Conspiracy" (another nazi related film, w/ Kenneth Branagh), boring as well, even though that is an excellent, excellent film. If you can't be pulled in to the mood of this film and be compelled by the beauty in it, then I don't think you are going to enjoy this one. It would also help if you are a fan of the 80s time period.By the way, I do like watching horrible movies for comedic value (a'la MST3K), so I can definitely appreciate that sensibility. But I don't put this film in that category.

This is a great bad movie. They genuinely put some character arcs and a great story and setting into this schlock masterpiece. They did a lot with what they had for a budget and props. And the little details and over-dramatizations just make it all work so well. The Nazi meeting where Adolph dramatically stabs the sand bag for effect, the way they say the Nazi names over and over again to remind you, and yes... The Switchboard weapon. Just a few of the many features of this gem. And keep an eye out for the Switchboard being used in beach combat. It's quick, but they put it in. Oh, this wonderful movie!!! So bad and yet so so good. Mein Surfen Nazis!

Watch the montage of Leroy's death as his mother approaches while you see the killers in his sunglasses. The way the two guys argue as silhouettes in the quasit hut is truly stunning with unapologetic cinematography.I first saw this this feature on USA's "Up All Night" when I was really getting acquainted with the potential of "B" films. Immediately I knew SNMD blew all the other TROMA garbage away.Silly plot and bad acting, but the careful editing of the well thought out storyboard set to cool audio (turn it up!) and just let take you there. Isn't that what the best movies do?

Because it was low budget and the costumes cheap and the Nazi theme and makeup-bit was a wacked-out distraction, what you basically end up with with SNMD is a time-machine "window" that shows you a bit of the So-Cal surf and skate-culture in 1986-87: a little of the music, the fashion, the surf-gangs (which still exist today -- ever heard of the "Bay Boys?), and the skateboard kids."I never saw this back in the 80s, but had heard of it. Seeing it now was a time-trip -- like watching a weird, old home-movie that you've never seen before.

Having sat through Iron Sky 1 and2 I honestly didn't think someone could mengele a film that badly. Advertized as an action movie better than mama's home cooking, the screenwriting quickly wiped out.Switchboards were cool though.6/10 bad nicknames (smeg?)

My oh my. Dawn Wildsmith is always over the top. Same with Michael Sonye. Saw plenty of effort in this cheeky tale, but it's all over the place. Some nice surf footage though.

I forgot how damn dumb this movie is (glad I didn't pay a lot for this used copy!!) but still fun in a "brain-dead/ cartoon" way.

The worst film in the history of the world? The plot is awful, the cothes are awful, the surfing is awful, the screen play is awful. Buy it, it's amazing.

I'm a big fan of Troma films and low budget films in general. I generally love the charm that they contain and normally the characters that are portrayed.Now I totally understand that this has a low budget feel even by Troma standards, however I just didn't get it. It lacks the aforementioned charm and I think it would have been better if just 2 gangs had been portrayed with more members in each. A war against a 3 man gang does not make for much anticipation in the battle scenes.I wouldn't say this is the worst film I've seen and I will revisit it again at some point, but I can't give this film any more than 3 stars. A nice release by Arrow, but maybe not a film they should have released in the first place with so many films waiting in the wings.
