Bandy: The True Tale of a Courageous Cape Cod Canada Goose

Bandy is the story of a caring friendship between an injured Canadian wild goose and the author who lived with her husband on a private pond in Massachusetts when she first befriended Bandy the wild goose. What eventually developed after his yearly sojourn to warmer weather is that upon Bandy's return he had lost one of his feet.Thus began a series of health-related events, including hospitalization when Bandy acquired an infection, and a lot of worry as to whether he would be able to adapt and survive in the wild. There were many anxious moments when it did not appear promising.This is a sweet and touching story of love and dedication from human to wildlife and vice versa. It is written with ease and warmth and thoroughly succeeds in keeping the reader glued to the pages from beginning to end.One cannot help but compare Bandy with one of my favorite books of all time with a similar theme:  Enslaved by Ducks  by Bob Tarte. If you have not read this book, you are deprived.Thank goodness Bandy is a story with a happy ending where faith, love and trust prevail. A real feel-gooder!

Anyone interested in wildlife in general, birds in particular will enjoy this inspiring book. Marcia Croce Martin is a very caring person who befriends and cares for a banded (hence the name Bandy!) Canada goose who suffers mishaps, such as losing one of his legs. A true bond develops between the two as the goose keeps returning to his human friend who always looks out for him.

I love this book. Precious story of rehabbing an injured goose. Get this for your animal loving 12 year old and for yourself!

Bandy is a heart warming true story of a goose's relationship with a human and her love for him. People need to read this sort of book before calling hunters in to rid the golf courses of these "nuisance birds".Diane Scharle

Enjoyed this book very much. Any animal lover will love it, especially those fond of waterfowl. I am not typically a voracious reader, but I read this book in two sittings. It teaches the special nature of the Canada goose, but more importantly, the life lessons we can learn from them (or any wildlife for that matter). A heartfelt journey to get lost in, it is worth the read.

Marcia Martin has a gift for storytelling, and in her warm and open and down-to-earth style, she shares with us an amazing and enchanting story about her friendship with a very special one-legged Canada goose named Bandy. It is a story about compassion and dedication, love and trust, and what we can learn from nature and its denizens about adversity. Indeed, Bandy has much to teach us about courage and perseverance and resilience, and by telling his story, Marcia Martin has given us a most wonderful and inspiring gift.

An awesome tale of a Canada goose who fights through major injury in not very easy circumstances. A great bond is formed between animal and human, with trust as the cornerstone of the relationship. A perfect title, as this goose possesses courage that mamy humans can only dream about. Long live Bandy!

Bandy was one of many wild canada geese visting Marcia's pond - and yet he was special and brave and drew her attention. Since he wore a band she was able to identify him and enjoy his repeat visits. Unfortunately, Bandy became injured which caused him to lose status with the geese - however, the bond between Bandy and Marcia strengthened and this story is very much about their special relationship. It is easy to feel the love that Marcia has for Bandy and to find oneself rooting hard for Bandy.If you enjoy stories about special animals, this book is for you. I was originally nervous to read it, thinking it may be too sad for me. But while it is, of course, sad that Bandy was injured, the book doesn't stop there or even dwell on this. Rather the story continues with Bandy's courage, intelligence, and special friendship with Marcia. I read the book in just a couple of hours and then ordered another copy to give as a gift. It is the kind of story you want to share.
