Wonderful Iyengar yoga resource
I am nearing the end of my 200 hr yoga teacher training in the Iyengar lineage. I ordered this book after getting an unexpected gift card and I am so glad I did. It is full of wonderful color photos and quotes from Mr. Iyengar, and it includes more recent photos of him doing some asanas as an elder, in addition to seeing him work with students. It contains a lot of detailed instructions that will compliment my teacher training skills. I know I will use this book as a reference and look to it for teaching tips in the coming years. I also have many of the books by Ray Long, which are also informative, but this book is really a comprehensive how to teach and modify poses for entry level students. I also have How To Use Yoga by Mira Mehta and while I have enjoyed that book, this text seems more thorough and covers more poses. This book also provides more clear explanations and includes more modification options than Mr. Iyengar's Light on Yoga, which is another excellent Iyengar must-read.

A wealth of wisdom from a guru
Excellent book. The content of the book is invaluable. The quality of the book itself is great. The pictures are colored and clear and the layout is very easy to read (easy on the eyes). It is a little bigger and heavier than I expected, but it's not that big of deal for me. It almost feels like a 'college text book', which makes it feel a little more official for some reason :)My only complaint is the way it arrived. The book came in a box with no protection. Simply a book in a box, which was big enough so the book could slide around in there. The box looked smashed up by the time it got to me and so the book was a little damaged, but nothing that would have me sending it back. I plan on using this book often and so it's bound to get a little roughed up anyway.

An Encyclopedia of Yoga
I've had this book for five minutes and I already love it. I've started back into yoga again, practicing daily at home due to COVID-19. I'd ordered a couple of books that didn't have the detail that I needed to figure out the various poses. I like vinyasa, but this book is meticulous in its various descriptions of the classic poses so I can master the physical and integrate into my general practice. It's a great big book, that appears to include pretty much everything you need to know about Iyengar Yoga, and yoga practice in general. Terrific.

Comprehensive resource!
This is a beautiful book. I am a 300 hour certified yoga instructor, and I am currently working on a 100 hour certification for chair yoga. This was a suggested text and I purchased it because I am trying to grow my yoga library anyway. This book is beautiful with pictures, instructions, what each pose does, and when to avoid each pose. It’s very comprehensive and I’m so glad I decided to add it to my collection.

Practice Changing!
This book is changing my practice. First it is beautiful and coffee table quality. Secondly, the clear photos and descriptions, along with the organization of the book, have made it very a useful adjunct to my yoga classes. I am practicing more regularly and with clearer intention. Also pronouncing the Sanskrit names before each pose, which was hard before because although I had heard them in class, I hadn't seen them in writing associated with the pose before. Not that this is terribly important, but it makes me feel like a sincere student now. There are helpful sections organized around various ailments to help choose appropriate therapeutic poses.

Back to basics
I bought this book because of the outstanding notes on correct form in the poses and the excellent notes on the use of props- the Iyengar outstanding contribution to yoga practice. After twenty years of practice I wanted to step back and look at my practice anew. However there is excessive repetition in the approach to various ailments and I wasn't really interested in Iyengars life history. Also Iyengar emphasizes doing the posture in a way to benefit each individual body and not twisting oneself into a pretzel to achieve the classic pose. This is still one of the best basic yoga manuals around.
