Excellent purchase. Expensive but I feel it’s worth it.
So easy to install. Took out a package. Just added the back panel, which required no screwing just sliding onto the middle base. Fits my fireplace absolutely perfectly. You barely see the back panel unless you are really down low and looking at it directly high-level. Very quiet as well. And the heat that it generates is pretty nice. Although I probably will not use the heat regularly. But definitely more efficient than using Duraflame logs, which basically were just for ambience and sucked hot air of the flu. I’ve tried multiple settings and like some of them. Although the remote isn’t that strong, you have to be right next to the unit to use it. And don’t really care for the form factor of the remote as they are a cheap type, versus buttons that actually are not part of the face plate. Would’ve liked more flame options. This really just allows you to turn the flame off and on. But the logs allotted for brightness. But would’ve definitely liked the flames to be able to increase speed, decrease speed and intensity levels. It was more expensive than some of the other brands, but this was definitely more realistic looking. The flame looks like it’s coming from in between the logs versus behind the logs. The logs are also more realistic than the other versions out there. Highly recommend. It seems much more realistic than any electric insert that I’ve seen. As it actually provides some depth in the fireplace versus the electric inserts. Even visiting the fireplace stores, the inserts that are actually pretty much television sets still look pretty fake to me, especially when they put full logs in front of them. This is really the best thing for your buck for sure. One more thing, when I close the glass on it, it is as realistic as it gets. Unless you’re really up close to it and looking at it. I’ll definitely enjoy the cost savings of not buying Duraflame logs during the winter.

Great ambiance at the press of a button!
I live in an older house with a wood-burning fireplace but I don’t want the hassle, smokiness, and mess of burning wood so I decided to buy some electric logs to use when I wanted the mood of a fire. I knew going in that whatever I bought wouldn’t look exactly like a real fire but I hoped to find something that didn’t look totally cheap and cheesy and I’m very pleased with this log set. To get the “bad” out of the way first - the heater is weak. Definitely buy this for the look, not the heat. My living room is average-sized and in checking with a thermometer, running it on high for two hours didn’t raise the room temperature at all. My favorite seat is about 8 feet away and I couldn’t even tell the heater was on. You only feel heat if you’re within a couple of feet of it. My cats like to lay in front of it. Also, the plastic reflector piece is as obvious in bright light as other reviewers have said. My first photo shows the logs running in daylight with the curtains open on a picture window on the wall that’s left of the fireplace wall. (I darkened the edge of the shield before installation.) While I don’t love how obvious it is in bright light, I’m so pleased with the effect in dim light (when I’m more likely to use it) that the trade-off is worth it to me. Now for the good stuff. The “fire” looks wonderful at night or with the curtains closed. (See the video.) It’s soothing and subtle and while I’m sure there must be a pattern to the “flames” it isn’t at all obvious. In dim light, the flame pattern reflects faintly on the fireplace liner bricks as well as the reflective shield, adding to the effect. There are three different flame settings and I think the fire looks most natural on the lowest setting but all are good. The remote I received works perfectly and the controls are logical. The only assembly necessary was inserting the reflective shield into the slots and the logs were ready to use. There was no weird smell to anything. Overall, I’m very pleased that I bought this log set. If it lasts a few years, it will have been well worth the money to me. NOTE: I didn’t buy the ember mat attachment that’s available for these logs. I was on the fence about its appearance and at the time I bought the logs, the price of the ember mat was $80, which I think is insanely expensive for what reviewers have said is basically some molded styrofoam-like material with a few LED lights, so I created my own “ember bed” with some fire pit rocks and battery-powered LEDs, both purchased on Amazon. The cost was about half that of the ember mat. If anyone likes how it looks (see second photo and video), here’s what I did - I bought a strand of orange, battery powered, LED “fairy lights” for $7 and a 10 pound bag of “Marigold Glow” fire pit rock, which is a mix of black lava rocks and heat-safe orange and amber glass, for $34. I arranged them in front of the logs and TaDa!...embers! And since the lights have their own battery pack, I can use the logs with or without them, depending on what effect I want.

Good Unit, looks realistic
I love real wood fires in the fireplace. Problem is, I have a a fireplace that, while fairly new, is old school in design. It's terribly inefficient -- no outside air to sustain the fire and no heat exchanger/fan forced air around the fire box. The result is that if you build a nice fire in it you are actually sending your heated house air up the chimney (think $ going out) so that the net effect is an increase in your energy use. I got tired of the high heating bills due in part to using this inefficient fireplace. So after a review of the options, I got this. I figured that at the very least I could close the chimney flue and look at the pretty colored flames while saving utility costs. The unit has more than met my expectations. In the daytime, the reflection from the plexiglass shield is noticeable but at night in a darkened room the flames look absolutely realistic. I did what many have recommended and used a black magic marker to blacken the edge of the shield -- this helped the reflection quite a bit. I wish the unit put out a bit more heat but mine is in a very large great room so I don't really think that is the unit's fault. It's a a 5000 watt (more or less) unit and that would warm up a 10 x 10 x 8 foot room, our great room is probably at least twice that size. But it does put out a noticeable amount of heat and warms up the room quite a bit after it's been operating for 30 minutes or so. My one very minor pet peeve is that the plexiglass shield does not snap firmly into place and it is easily dislodged if you (as I did) have to assemble it before you place it in the fireplace. That was difficult for me to do without bumping it on something and dislodging the shield. But I finally got it in right and once it's in, it's there forever. Another minor issue is that the front legs are rather flimsy. This is not really a big issue because most of the weight of the unit is born by the flat bottom of the heating unit; the front legs are there just to keep it from falling forward. But they are rather flimsy. Haven't seen what effect, if any, this will have on my heating bill but I figure it absolutely cannot be worse than burning wood inefficiently. Very pleased with the unit.

Great but having issues with the remote......
I bought this unit for my dad to put in his gas wood burning fireplace as the chimney needed an estimated $5000 of internal repairs and was not considered safe to burn wood by the company that cleaned it. The unit itself looks great in the cavity of the brick fireplace. Being that its enclosed and naturally dark it looks really good. If you want to put this in a place that is more lit or has light shining on it I would warn you that it might be very obvious that its fake. The main reason other than the look was that he wanted to use it for heat when he was watching TV in that room during the winter. It does a great job of providing heat and he typically does not run it on the High setting (two beeps) as it gets too warm. So far all that is great but what is not great is the range of the remote. Its actually terrible. You have to be right on top of the unit to make the remote work. I did send an email to the company as their tech support phone line usually has a stated wait time of 30-40 minutes, I never did get a response back. that has been nearly a month ago. I will just have to call and wait on hold I guess. Something else I want to point out as a safety issue. This is a plug in unit and it does have an amperage draw that I would not put on a circuit that has several other things and ABSOLUTELY NO EXTENSION CORDS!!! you are just asking for a real fire with something like this. In this case I had a dedicated circuit ran just for this. Thankfully I have a very reasonable electrician I can count on or if you are handy in that area then do it yourself. Other than the remote control issues he is thrilled with the unit and doesn't miss carrying logs to the fireplace at all! I will update this once I finally make contact with the company and based on their response this rating may go up or down. UPDATE: I'm late adding this but I finally broke through over the phone and they sent me a new remote. Problem solved the range is better now.

Improve your quality of life - GREAT VALUE!
PROS: How many ways can you think of to improve the your quality of life instantly for about $220? This electric log set instantly added coziness to my new (budget) apartment built in 1980 and helped to aid in relaxation immediately post-move. It has a meditative quality to it. Now, I just can’t imagine if I had moved into this apartment without it. If you have some slight social anxiety (or like the typical jitters when meeting someone new or new-ish), this is nice to have as a focal point while sipping wine. (: With the heater “off,” electric inserts are considered safe to leave on (like just the lights/illusion part "on"). It is plug and play! Just put the mirrored plastic piece in its place, plug in, and you’re good to go! In my size fireplace, I had to situate the base in first and kinda finagled the plastic piece in after that. I was worried that it wouldn’t fit, but it ended up being perfect (top of arch extends a bit but does not make it look any less pretty). Overall, this is beautiful and as realistic as one may reasonably expect - for this price point and well on up. I still cannot believe the value! CONS: Although turning the side/backlights on (and to the flickering setting) helps to disguise the shine of the plastic piece (as will a screen - great if you have one built into your surround already), you can see a bit of a glare on the plastic (the part that makes the realistic looking “flame” possible). However, this is not a major drawback as when the lights in your home are super dim or off at night (or even with just the TV on), you can’t really see the glare - especially with the side/backlight feature on. The remote could be more intuitive. For safety, I keep the instructions on the shelf with the remote. I may type up and laminate a simpler set of instructions on a card to keep with it. To avoid a panicked moment after you’ve enjoyed your cozy evening with the heater on, READ the instructions beforehand. Finally, this product could be more accessible. If you are unable to hear the “beeps,” you may not know how you have just changed the settings via the remote. There could be changes made to add indicator lights to the side of the base and/or remote to fix this. This would make usage more intuitive for everyone right out of the box.

Extremely realistic and easy to use.
Great little log set! At a fraction of the cost of a full install this log set looks insanely real in person has decent heat output and is super easy to install. The only negative in my opinion is that the remote control is a bit weak and you have to be really close and point it right at the log set for it to work. I went a few steps further and added some black lava rocks to blend the ember bed. I then added an Alexa echo dot inside the fireplace so I could play fireplace sounds (very realistic crackling and flame sounds) as well as a Bond Bridge to make the log set “smart” as you cannot do this by plugging it into a smart plug. Using a smart plug would let you turn the fire off but not back on as there is a safety shutoff when the power is cut and you have to use the remote to run it back on. The Bond bridge mimics the remote button press and solves the problem. I can now control the flame effect and heater separately with Alexa. Lastly I got some campfire scented essential oils and placed them in cotton pads in front of the heater. When it kicks in it emits a very subtle, very pleasing and realistic scent of pine wood and smoke. It’s quite convincing in person. I like it much more than I thought I would. To clean up the wires I ran them all together through a cable management raceway down the front of the fireplace and along the baseboard to the nearest plug. Overall I’m extremely happy with the setup and it was much less expensive than having a built in unit installed. And this way if I ever want to go back to real fires I can just pull it out.

Great product
Received this from Amazon and it was broken. The logs were chipped all over. Requested to be returned and Amazon wanted me to return to seller, I contacted seller directly and received stellar service. I was told I did not have to return damaged product and received new one from the seller in excellent condition three days later. Looks just like real fire. Excellent service from the seller and great product.
