Unfortunately I live in an area where preschool isn't available to everyone, and I didn't want my son to go into kindergarten unready! I tried on my own, with only workbooks to work with, but it didn't "feel" right, something was missing. STRUCTURE. I was flying blind and all we were doing was working in fun little workbooks. This book is GREAT! I breaks it down every day, so you can use it straight as a lesson plan! We use the workbooks to suppliment, since this book doesn't teach writing letters or numbers. This book is mainly filled with learning activities, hands-on activities and games about a different subject every day! I LOVE it! =) Review: LOVE these so far - I run a daycare and bought these books to help guide our daily activities. I've only been using it for a few weeks, but love it. I also bought the Daily Curriculum book co-authored also by Pam Schiller, who helped write this one. They have a lot of similar things, but enough different that I kept them both. There is lots of ideas in the book for kids with varying interests and it's made planning educational stuff a lot easier for me.

Preschool 101
Like most of these books I've purchased this is geared more towards a professional, brick and mortar preschool. But thats not to say there isn't a wealth of information for the homeschoolers or parents prepping their children for school. It lays everything out from an actual hour by hour schedule to activities and all of the mudane details most of us would overlook. Most of the activities are beneficial and geared towards basic level self exploration, basic knowledge and would benefit the average 2 to 3 year old child. I would've liked to have seen morr academics included but everything included here is useful and essential! Great value!

Hope to be helpful
I purchased this book as a gift to a Mongolia preschool teacher in the Northwest, remote region in China. The teacher is a young Mongolia lady determined to become a good teacher. She is also eager to learn English. I hope this book is a good resource for her and will check with her on feedback in the future.

I was not impressed
I have two children a 2 year old and a 3.5 year old. We tried to get our 3 year old into a preschool this year, but he ended up on the waiting list and did not get in. We are sending both boys to a daycare 2 mornings a week so that they can socialize with other kids. We would like to supplement their education with more than they will get at the daycare. This is one of four books that I bought to help me plan lessons for them. I am also a certified high school math teacher, and have taught pre-school Sunday school classes for about 10 year. I realize that I am not quite the intended audience for this book, but I do feel that I have enough of the right background to write a review both from the perspective of a teacher and a parent. I will also note that I am basing everything in this review off of my 3 year olds ability level, not the 2 year olds. I know that the book is for 3-5 year olds and my 2 year old is indeed to young for the majority of the activities in the book. Pros: *gives ideas for themes that you can study and organizes activities by theme. *In each big theme (which lasts 2 weeks), there are several smaller daily themes that relate. *Gives 6 activities for each daily theme which does result in quite a few activities Cons: *Many of the activities seem boring to me because they don't relate to the real world. *If you plan on doing 6 new activities every day, it would take a ton of prep time for the teacher, and probably cost a fair amount of money unless you already have a lot of random supplies on hand. *Many of the activities repeat so the book does not contain nearly as many ideas as it looks like it does at first glance. For example they suggest you play the game "memory" with several of the different themes. There is nothing wrong with that in and of itself, but I didn't need a book to give me that idea. *The activities are not described in very much detail. Each activity is described in one to two sentences at most. Yet many of the activities are so simple and obvious that they don't need more than a sentence of two. *If you are teaching in a classroom, quite a few of the activities would require an adult to be at the station helping the children. If you have a couple of helpers in the room that may not be an issue. *The biggest issue I have with the book is that the activities often do not teach what they are supposed to teach. The majority of the activities are "play" suggestions, and not ways to teach academics through play. Which is ok if all you are looking for are semi fun things to keep kids busy. That is not what I was looking for. The activities that do teach what they are supposed to teach do not advance in any sort of logical way. Remember, I am a math teacher so I do believe strongly that math should be taught sequentially, reading and writing should be as well. This curriculum will leave a lot of holes in the kids knowledge if it is not supplemented with something else. As a result, kids who follow this curriculum without any supplementation, will not be ready for kindergarten. *I read the book for about 45 minutes last night. I have by no means read it all yet, but in that time NOTHING jumped out at me as a really cool activity that I just had to try with my kids. I was really hoping that this book would help me plan lessons for my kids in a fun way and give me the security that I was covering all important topics that they need to know before kindergarten. But it did not do that for me.

Excellent resource for working with children
This resource book contains detailed lesson plans for preschool education. You can take an activity and tailor it to fit your schedule, or you can follow the lesson plans exactly. I purchased this book to find educational, fun activities I could use with kids. This book is perfect!
