I got this for my motorhome. It's easy to install, just attach it across the battery. I installed this one in the house section. The cables are high quality and very beefy to they'll take the surge. I took a peek inside the box to make sure there's actually something in there. I only saw the back of the PCB and couldn't get into it further without risking destroying it, so I didn't see much. I was not surprised at all though to find that it actually does appear to be a surge suppressor, not just a box with an LED. These work by shunting current when there's a voltage spike- and from what I saw it looks like that's exactly what it will do. Until this actually saves, or fails to save, my motorhome from a spike, it's impossible to know how well it does the job. Surge suppressors are never a guarantee, but having a surge suppressor like this on the 12V side is something I am very glad to have in place. They are not cheap, but it's cheaper than losing the motorhome. I would consider installing one in the vehicle engine as well.

At the time of this review, there have been multiple solar flares causes by a massive geomagnetic storm on the surface of the sun that has been producing multiple "M" and "X" type of coronal mass ejections (CME). These are very bad for electronics. In fact, they can wipe out every electronic that is on at the time of an electromagnetic pulse. Having this EMP protection device gives me peace of mind in case we are affected by the solar flares and other sources of EMPs. The only other option is a Faraday Cage. But those are expensive and usually built on a smaller scale.

I have seen this, and one other brand advertised as lightning and EMP protection. There is quite a bit of research on these if you care to read it. That said, the installation was a piece of cake. Before the product arrived, I reached out directly to the vendor to see how customer service might be and asked a few questions. I received a five-star response, in which they provided the documentation I asked for and answered my questions. There really is not a good way to test these unless there is an EMP burst or a lightning strike so if it happens, I will report back with how it went. Until then, I will trust the research.

I have a really expensive AC surge suppressor for the RV which has a DC converter in it and a whole DC system as well. Why not a DC surge suppressor?? I have a huge investment in the RV Motorhome and why not help protect from a surge or lightning strike that comes in through the DC system. IF it also works to protect from solar flares and an EMP, which I am not sold on. Then so be it, but I feel better with this being a surge suppressor on my DC bus. If my DC starlink gets hit hopefully it will not transit through the whole system.
