One of the best of all time
As I planned to play through CoD4 before the release of Modern Warfare 2 I got the dreaded red ring of death on my 360. So instead of buying a new 360 I just ordered a copy of the CoD4 Game of the Year instead. I notice no real difference between the PS3 version and teh 360 version. The story and gameplay is fantastic and hold up well against Modern Warfare 2. Granted the couple years of development helped to polish MW2 a bit better, but CoD4 stands up an a premier game still, three years later. The game play is fast and intense with constant streams of enemies attaching. That can be fun and at times can be annoying. Sometimes you just end up fighting until you cross a certain spawn point which means you really can't thin out the mass of enemies. You are better to movie forward that being tactical and slow. That means CoD4 can lend itself to a sort of run and gun gameplay style, particularly on the easier settings. On Hardcore and Veteran things get amazingly hard though and if you are looking for an amazing challege that is where you will find it. While I manage to eventually make it through the game on veteran towards the end it was an act of determination, since it was not fun anymore. The enemy AI is good and they will flank and take cover, though some will charge you at times resulting in a rifle butt to the face and instant death if you aren't fast enough. The weapons in game are great and all feel pretty unique. The reloading sequences are very accurate and the guns feel unique and weighty. In too many games the weapons all feel the same but in CoD4 there are advantages to each, even more so during multiplayer. The campaign is fantastic. Granted it follows the CoD pattern with epic set piece scenes and a very linear path. But the graphics and polish combined with the amazing story make it easy to immerse yourself in the game play. CoD has a habit of pushing the envelope with each now game and CoD4 is no different, from first person executions and nuclear explosions CoD4 has it all. I would also be remiss were I not to mention the level you operate as a gunner on an AC130. This level was so well done and such an amazing change of pace. You leave the gritty on the ground feel and get to fight through a level from the safety of a gunship. The in ship dialog is spot on and its hard to tell if you are watching actual footage online or playing the level, which is fantastic. All in all if you haven't jumped one to the CoD Modern Warfare bandwagon its time to get a ticket. Modern Ware 2 is a fantastic game by if you haven't played the first one yet you owe it to yourself to give it a play through.

Immersive action and good story
I'm reviewing as a casual gamer who loves a good shooting action game in a move-along (campaign) mode. I played only in the easiest mode, as I like to kick back and enjoy all aspect of the game, from the scenes and settings, to the story, to the team action, and to the weapon. I don't care to be the most aggressive, meanest and coldest shooter. It took me about 10 hours or so to finish in the recruit mode. The cold war story was intriguing, but a bit too fast to grasp all details the first time around. The prologue on the ship was a great start, which definitely got my adrenaline flowing! When finished with the game, an epilogue is available for actions on a jumbo passenger plane! There is also the arcade mode which one can keep score. The graphics is still good by today's standard (2012), but not ideal for large TVs. 50-inch HDTV was fine, but putting it on a 1080p 125-inch projection and the details are fuzzy. The music is quite appropriate (when reaching climax of battle). The AI is quote good as the enemies can adapt and own team members can yield if I was aggressive, or take the lead if I was passive on most incremental battle advancements (e.g., room to room). Overall it's a great all around adult shooting game.. even in 2012. Well worth it for the price.

It's Fun... if you like that sort of thing.
Well, sure. The price is cheaper, and the graphics are fantastic. However, the gameplay isn't quite as enthrolling and fun as you might expect. You could argue there's a "unique" storyline to each mission, but after brutally and mercilessly killing your enemies over and over and over- it starts to feel like too much of a good thing. Of course, the multiplayer is excellent, but if you're not into the whole "wear a clunky headset and yell at strangers" thing, only the not-quite-as-pleasing splitscreen function is available for you... and how often do you want your friends coming over to shoot each other dead? Aren't there much better things to do? I guess I'm kind of straying from the product there... it's a really quality product. The graphics are all too real, and your first-time experience with it will be unforgettable. But after a long day of blasting the enemies to smithereens, you start to get sick of it. I guess that's what games like LittleBigPlanet are for. :)

Absolute Best
Well, Is little I can say about a perfect 10 game that hasn't been said before, if you have not played it, play it. I got engaged in the story line with MW3, and I wanted to know what happened before, so I got MW1 and MW2. Played both, MW2 is more advanced in terms of graphics, tech applied, etc, but MW1 has more "heart" Engaging, dynamic, and compelling!!! nothing else to say, played twice, once regular and once hardened, wow, hardened gets you stuck in some places...! My favorite part is Prypiat, Ukraine, it's impressive, specially when you go through the abandonded schools and you can still hear the childres, give you chills, since I know that actually happens nowadays!! Full five stars for this game!!! and on line game has high remarks as well, I wasn't expecting much, but it's actually awesome

Best Game I had on my older PS3
I had this game on my PS3 and I sold the whole bunch of games with my older PS3 to get the new one and I am reordering it again and it's the best online game as it's always different and it's always fun to play. There are so many options of guns and places to go that this game keeps you busy for weeks! I got the World of war but didn't like it as much since the guns here are more powerfull and more fun to play with. I am getting the new game too hopefully it's as fun I did have the upgraded maps but there is some more options here that I am dying to try!

Still Outstanding Multiplayer Gameplay. Modern Warfare is a MUST BUY!
Revisited this game after dusting it off. Been playing COD Black Ops and thought I would try the multiplayer on this to buy time before the second map pack DLC is launched for Black Ops. If you do not own this game yet - BUY IT! Multiplayer is still alive and surprisingly there are still many people playing it. For the price Amazon is charging this game is a terrific value especially if you enjoy the online multiplayer FPS games. Multiplayer has no issues I can complain about and I am shocked that after all the time that has passed since this game was released that it still puts more recent FPS games to shame. A must buy for anyone who enjoys online multiplayer!

very good adult game
I bought this game for my husband's birthday so he could play it on our new PS3. He is over 40 and the PS3 was our adult toy cause the kids have 3 other game systems so I wanted a adult system/game for us. Wasn't sure he was going to like it but he loves it. The game looks so real and it contains alot of killing and blood, not good for kids, but on our 46 inch lcd tv you would swear you where there. Many levels to game so it looks like you will never get bored and will take a while. It seems alot of money to me at first but now I see why, well worth the price.
