L'Oreal HiP Kohl Liner - Burgundy Kohl

A cool, exotic, sexy, vintage chic kohl eye makeup, admittedly with a bit of a learning curve, but so worth it!
Wow, am I impressed! I This review is for the Loreal HIP Kohl Liner in black. I've never used actual powdered kohl, so I thought I'd give this a try. After a bit of experimentation, watching a few youtube video how to's, getting past a bit of a learning curve, some slight trial & error & actually having a chance to wear this out & about, not just around the house, I've gotta say, this stuff is pretty cool. This may sound like a lot of effort, but, not really, since the results are so worth it!I'm an old-school or "elder goth" & I love vintage & exotic makeup as well, so I really do like my black eyeliner & love to try out different effects & styles of makeup wear. This totally fits the bill & yes, it definitely has a sexy "Jack Sparrow" or rocker chick effect too, if you want. There are so many ways to wear this! Since it's summer right now, I currently like it for a breezy "Elizabeth Taylor at the beach" look. Stunning! This kohl is a very black, loose powder, which clings to the tip of a long, thin, flexible, felt-like tipped wand handle on the end of the screw on lid, inside the flat based, clear acrylic bottle. It can definitely be messy!I highly suggest you experiment with it first before using it right before going out! One easy tip I have, is to lean forward when putting it on, so any powder fallout falls away from your face, not under your eyes or onto your cheeks (a tissue can also help but is just one more thing to have to deal with). I've found just dabbing the powdered felt tip wand onto my inner lids separately, top & bottom, then holding my eyes closed for a few seconds, to press the powder into place, works best for me, then I lightly drag the felt tip out, to the side, for a slight exotic Egyptian cat eye look, gorgeous! I put this on (& always finish my eye makeup before doing the rest of my face makeup anyhow), & clean up any mess with a q-tip lightly rolled in face moisturizer or lotion. If any powder gets on your eyes, don't freak out, just blink, it'll transfer to your inner eyelids. By the way, I'm not sure how well how it'll work with someone wearing contact lenses.I finally had a chance to recently wear this out of the house (I've only had it about a week), to a doctor appt that really put it through it's paces! I had no idea how much it would be tested, but it came through beautifully! At the appointment for a lower back issue, I ended up having to lay face down, on a massage style table with a small face hole, which never does any favors for makeup. But, wow, afterwards, this kohl looked like it hadn't rubbed off or faded or shifted a bit! Color me impressed! Since then, I've ordered it in teal & gold as well. I just can't wait to experiment some more!I think this bottle will last quite a while, but I'd still gladly but it again, give it as a gift, & as I mentioned, I've already bought it in a few other colors as well now too! Just remember to expect a mess at first, experiment & maybe watch some youtube tutorials.

Like a sexy Jack Sparrow!
If you are looking for a precise, sophisticated makeup look, kohl probably is not you. Whether in powder or stick form, kohl is going to smear and give you blackout crazy rock chic eyes. Sometimes, this is what I am looking for and this kohl does the job- it is black and dark. I have splashed out on Guerlain's kohl in past and this is much more affordable option and it's unfortunate that it is discontinued. I have tried other Arabic and Indian kohls in the past, but I am wary of them because some have been found to contain lead. Even the FDA here in the US has tested and found many lipsticks containing trace amounts of lead (without pulling them from the market), so I am even more suspicious of cosmetics that may be manufactured with less restrictive policies or oversight. The applicator is much better on this one, as the Guerlain has a traditional hard stick applicator while this has a flexible silicon tip on it, which is more comfortable and grips the powder better, so there is less fallout (there is still a lot and I have some tips below for that). I have some gripes that it is not packaged with a sanitary seal, but it is discontinued now and pointless to discuss the flaws, so I'll move on to how to make it work for you if you own it already and can't make it work for you or are looking to try it while it is available.I use the "eastern method" to apply it, lining your upper and lower lash line simultaneously. First, gingerly knock off as much excess powder as you can from the sides of the stick back into the container. Gently place the tip between your lids, starting in the inner corner and slide horizontally towards your ear. Et Voila! If you are squeamish about your eyeballs, you can gently dot onto the lash line. Not a method that I use, but it will probably transfer nicely from the lower lash line to the upper lash line. You get will some in your eyeball but a few blinks will clear it away. It makes my eyes feel a little dry throughout the day, but not any more than any other powder liner that I've used. If you wear contacts, I think it would be best to put in your lenses after applying and letting your eyeballs clear a bit. There are a few things you can do to deal with the inevitable fallout. You can do your eyes first, then clean up up with a swipe of toner before doing the rest of your face. But if you already have foundation applied, don't fret- there are tricks! Apply a liberal amount of translucent powder under your eye before applying the kohl. Then after you are done, use a fluffy brush and sweep it all away. If you skip the powder and still need to clean up, you can do so with a q-tip or cotton pad soaked in a bit of silicone-based primer. This will pick up the fallout without disturbing your foundation.I'll probably pick up the rest of the colors before this product becomes unavailable for good. So have fun and keep on rockin'!!!

Nice Travel Staple
Verdict: Recommended with a tentative, 'Why not?'Keep in mind, this is more like loose powder with a bit of water mixed in than an actual eyeliner. The color is a nice, dark purple, and I usually just use it for a subtle pop of color beneath my lower lashes (pressed on rather than drawn on because the powder does fall off the sponge-tip applicator, which can be heck for a woman with large cheeks like me). It's somewhat difficult to make a clear line with this stuff (and for some reason I have more success with the gold color of this same product), and I prefer just using my favorite eyeshadow and liner brush with a bit of water, but this stuff works well when I'm lazy. Very good travel makeup, and once it's on and dry, it has a tendency to stay on for a respectable amount of time.

Hot Mess
This is by far the worst Khoi liner I’ve ever used! It’s a mess that just gets worse the the more you clean. And I’m not talking smudges or the normal stuff. It was literally everywhere. So get your gloves on and all the makeup remover if you use this product.

Wish it was more dark bown.
It's not the aspect l was expected to have, to shinny yellow for a brown khol.

Not happy with the item
I received this eyliner. It was dry powder with a sponge brush. I thought it will be a proper liquid eyliner. A detailed description about this product Should be mentioned on the website. None of the colors have that. I ordered a navy and it was almost black color. I think I received a defected product.
