How long does it stay on for

It depends on a few factors- 
•If you have lightened your hair prior to application you will achieve a long lasting hold. 
•The darker the color you are using the longer it will last. (Colors in the purple family will hold the best. Pinks, generally, last the shortest.)
•How many days do you wait to wash you hair again after the initial application? The longer you wait the better it will “stick” to your hair.
•How often you wash your hair and what type of shampoo/conditioner treatment you use will effect the longevity of your color
•Is you hair healthy? Damaged hair looses color faster no matter what brand you are using.
•Do you like hot showers (specifically hot water over your hair) or cooler showers. Hot water and a lot of direct sun exposure washes out colors faster.
•Did you follow the instructions correctly? I personally leave my color on a little longer than the recommend 15 minutes.
With all that being stated I typically use blues, pinks, and purples for my pre-lightened hair (level 8+). The pinks fade first within 8-10 washes. Then the blues and purples are usually similar at over 20 washes. Usually I still have color left months later when I get time to reapply. This is the best color I’ve found and it’s not nearly as damaging as most colors/stains since the first ingredient is aloe. I highly recommend it and often do share my “Kiss” secret.

What happens if you put it on dry hair?

If you put it on dry hair you'll get a better application imo but you will use more dye. It's not going to be patchy if you're careful and color properly and not just squeezing the bottle on your head and mushing it around like shampoo. I hate using dye on wet hair because it doesn't last as long so I rarely do what the directions say. I also keep it on my hair for 5-6 hours.

By apply to towel dryers hair does this mean the hair should be damp?

as an ex-cosmo, i do not agree with this method as it is counter productive. you will get less overall pigmentation if you apply over damp hair, than you would with bone dry, blow dried, clean hair that hasnt been conditioned prior. my suggestion for a brighter more resilient color as long as your hair isnt overly damaged(porous) & you dont taking scolding hot hair washes in which case dont ever expect anything to hold, is to wash your hair in clarifying shampoo such as head and shoulders or any anti dandruff shampoo, & blow dry your hair with no product or conditioners, then apply for best results.

when you apply to damp hair, the extreme centre of your hair  the medulla of your hair follicle is already filled with something. water! instead of the product. so most of the product in turn, washes down the drain along with your money. its actually a poplar marketing tactic! & your directs dyes last half the time bc they never got a chance to properly absorb fully into the shaft of your hair. you follow this method by rinsing in cold water so the cuticle of your hair sucks closed & holds onto the color instead of hot water which will hold those little shutters so to speak open, allowing all of the color to rinse down the drain.

now, the only exception to this rule! is that the more you damage your hair by over bleaching, the weaker those little cuticle shutters get, & are more unable to close. ever seen someones hair just not try or be super elastic & snap off after over bleaching!? yes, that is called porous hair & no toner. or hair color will hold there if your cuticle is burned away from excessive close in succession bleach abuse. and depending on your level of damage, youre suppose to wait a minimum of 3 days in between bleachings, to give your hair the chance to recover from being burned. otherwise you will most likely suffer breakage & thinning. its what will also will lead to patchiness due to the porosity.

using conditioner or any product that contains moisturizers, silicone "damage repair" or waxes prior to direct dye application is only going to end in heartache, as the color will just bead off of the shaft that has been closed and waxed shut by conditioning shampoos & conditioners or products.

silicones are also responsable for this. they hold those little shutters closed & fill the medulla, the center of the hair shaft with product instead of allowing anything else in. and there is actually a service we have to do for your hair after using too many of these cheap products such as dove, Pantene specifically, that remove all of that nasty silicone wax buildup because eventually nothing sticks & not even bleach will give you 100% coverage after over using waxy silicone based products.

to sum it up, as an ex-professional, ALL semi permanent direct dyes require always bone dry clean unconditioned hair, product free! that has been washed in a clarifying shampoo. because you dont want to fill your hair shaft with anything else before applying color & expect it to stick. damp hair will give you a tint instead of the full potency of the product.💖
