A little late, but better late than never!
Book arrived a couple of days late, but very happy to have it--it's in fantastic condition, just about New, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.Update: I've been doing the 35-day protocol and just finished Day 4. I've lost over 5 lbs, in those few days, and last night I ate PASTA--yes, PASTA--for dinner, with no issues whatever! In this short time I haven't taken a single antacid pill--haven't needed one--and my energy levels are rising every day. Usually I feel exhausted after eating dinner--I know now It's because the meal is miscombined, not because there's anything wrong with me. No exhaustion after last night's one--and I even cheated a little and had a roll dipped in Olive oil and a small bowl of tomato bisque soup as well. Bravo, Judy Mazel!

Worked for me
I first tried this diet back in the early 90s with one of my friends. I was in the military, had a baby and needed to get back down to pre-baby weight. The first 10 days I lost 11 lbs and ended up losing a total of 25 lbs. I'm not going to lie, it was very difficult. I was pretty much sick of pineapple by the end, but I never felt hungry. After my second baby, I did this diet and lost 17 lbs. This diet works wonders, but you have to be very disciplined.

Good old Judy, her voice, less strict version of the diet, but more livable
I did the original Beverly Hills diet in the 80's and lost a ton of weight in the fortysome days of that first version. It was a bit difficult at first because for the first two weeks you don't eat a real meal. The salt cravings were tough to get through, but the author's (Judy Mazel) words in the book keep you going and don't let you cheat. I got through and looked fantastic five weeks later.Three decades later I decided to do it again, not only for weight loss benefits but also for the detox benefits that all-day fruit days provide, since the body takes a digestion break on those days.Looking for the original book, I came across this one (The New Beverly Hills Diet). So I bought it and decided to do this diet to see the difference. The difference between this book and the first from three decades ago is the fact that in this one, you're allowed "food" from the first week. At the end of day one you're eating a salad! That same week you're eating corn on the cob and potatoes. At the end of the first week you're having steak and later shrimp! So, that is good. The problem for me has been that the weight loss has been extremely slow this time around. I am hitting too many plateaus, day after day, week after week. Interestingly enough, in this book, Judy does not explain why or how to handle the plateaus, until a few weeks in. What if you hit a plateau on the first week?In the first book, she does talk about plateaus in greater detail and how to handle them. In this book she does address them, but you have to look for the topic. It is buried in one of the "Diary Days". She also talks about the fact that some of us whose bodies have more junk and toxins likely experience a slower weight loss. And that is probably the case with me this time around. This time around, to my dismay, I've lost only 10 lbs in four weeks, and I've been hitting a plateau every week! This on the new diet. The good thing, however, is that this slower weight loss with this new version of the diet, is easier on the body, and it gives it time to adjust. Plus, the diet is livable, meaning you can continue repeating the new version of the diet way after the 35 days, until you lose all the weight there is to lose. You can continue on all fruit days some days of the week, and look forward to the nice open meals or protein or carb days, week after week, without feeling deprived and looking forward to the "end" of the diet, which is what happened to me the first time around. This diet is more of a lifestyle diet. It's quite social. Nothing is forbidden, you just have to plan for it. If you, however, end up "cheating" or "breaking the rules", she teaches you that there are counterparts that will fight off any potential weight gain at the following day. You will also find there are days you can actually get away with stretching the rules and you don't gain any weight. In my case, I just stay on the long plateau. But I can live with that. There are no portions, rarely you have to measure something, and the way it is structured, you never go hungry, unless you allow yourself to do so.So, if you're like me, and expect to lose weight dramatically and quickly on this new version of the diet, as the first time on the old version, and you don't, DO NOT get discouraged. We all gain very slowly as the natural process. So we should not expect a dramatic loss as adults, especially if we live mostly sedentary lifestyles, which is my case, in front of the computer most of the day. Now, there are people who have experienced a dramatic weight loss from the first week, in this new version of the diet, either because of their body metabolism or lifestyle or less toxicity, so kudos to them.I am a firm believer of cleansing, of the enzymatic power of natural fruit and veggies. So, I plan on continuing this diet until I lose all the weight, go beyond the 35 days and re-adapt it to my lifestyle, because it's easier to live on, week after week. If you need, however, to understand better where Judy Mazel comes from, and the whys and hows of her diet and its great success, I suggest you buy the first book as well, and read that one first. Here is the link on Amazon, for the paperback: The Beverly Hills Diet I find the first book to be more complete and it really helps you understand the psychology and reasons for her diet. No doubt, that version of the diet is longer and more strict. Personally, I'm not so sure I'd want to do that one again. So, if you want a diet lifestyle you can live with, I'd say get this new version (The New Beverly Hills Diet), but also buy the first book and read it. Then read this one. This one is a quicker, faster read because the first part is the introduction. You can get through it in one sitting in one afternoon. When you start the diet you work on the next half, which is more of a workbook type. But to understand and "get" this diet, if you're like me, I'd recommend to read both books.Overall, this new version is a successful and livable lifestyle diet. Nothing is really forbidden to you, so you can live on this eating lifestyle for the rest of your life. Just make sure you like fruit, and have access to it often, especially pineapple. Judy Mazel's diet the only one that has worked for me, even now that I'm losing weight so slowly. I see it more as a cleansing regimen than just a weight loss diet.

The New Beverly Hills Diet-Weight loss
Oh my gosh. What a great woman Judy Mazel is.I did the original Beverly Hills diet many years ago with great success, but I did find it quite restrictive. This new updated version is just as amazing, but introduces different food groups earlier on.I have been on the new diet for a week & lost 3.6 kilos already. Very happy. Thanks Judy!!From (getting) skinny in Australia.

For everyone
I'm on this diet now. Don't know yet if it will help. But I do believe in food combining which means you don't eat fruit with anything; you eat cholesterol alone and finish the day with protein and nothing else but 80% protein. I believe in this as I have heard it before and check out the enzymatic reactions to the food we eat as she tells it.

If you follow it, the weight will come off!
I didn't think I was going to be able to do this diet. I have the shortest attention span, and I'll get bored easily. BUT, I bought this book. Initially, I bought it because i wanted to read about digestive enzymes-which I realize sounds odd, but I'm a nurse, and we like reading stuff like that! : It makes sense. I photocopied the month long chart, and did everything the way she says to do it. I weighed myself every day. I read a passage from the book daily. A couple times I did eat something like a cookie or something tiny, and it didn't mess me up.She's right. You will lose. People do notice, almost right away. I did do yoga as well while on the plan. (I do yoga and pilates because I really don't like aerobics. Most of all, this diet is FUN. It's fun to find out what she has in store the next day. I kept it all off too, even after I stopped really sticking hardcore to the plan. I did read where people on other sites say you'll just gain it back. This is not totally true, the killjoys lump everyone in a group I guess. Here's what I did to eat whatever I wanted after doing the initial program and loosely following after:I drink water all day, and 3-5 cups of green tea.I do small workouts 3 times a week.Try it, you'll have FUN!

Beverley Hills Diet
As a follower of the original diet, this book is much less rigorous than it's predecessor. My husband and I have both dropped three sizes on it and feel energised both physically and mentally. I cannot recommend Judy Mazel and her diet highly enough.
