You need to measure the opening of the existing hole. I would suggest you unscrew the current and measure the opening. This peep hole took a slightly bigger opening, so I got a drill bit the size recommended in the instructions and just made my current hole larger. Meaning a hair. Once enlarged it easy was put into place. It is the tube that is larger. It may work for you with out a drill, but be sure you measure. Also, thinking your 80"s door is wood, which would make the adjustment very easy.I believe it is free returns so you can order, and see it if is a perfect fit.
