My eight year old grandson is learning how to play chess, and really enjoys it. This AMEROUS Magnetic Wooden Chess and Checkers Game Set is a Christmas present from us, gpa and gma, and he will be thrilled receiving this. The wood box is very sturdy and classy looking, and he can carry it around easily. Each piece is artisan crafted, and are magnetic. No more lost pieces. It is also a checkers board, but he has not learned that yet. I can’t wait to see his smile when he realizes what this is on Christmas Day. His mom said he really wants a set. I will take pictures after he opens his present and add them to this review. Highly recommend.

Great product for the price, I love that you can storage the pieces in the box, and the magnets are strong enough.

I rarely write reviews, but this chess set deserves credit. For the money ($32) it is fantastic. The wood grain is gorgeous, the craftsmanship is perfect (seriously - not a single flaw or chip or scratch), the clasps fit perfectly, the magnestism in the pieces is perfect (not too strong, but also you can turn the board completely upside down and the pieces hold), and the storage fittings are perfectly shaped (and made of a spongey rubbery dense-foam that grips them really snugly...you can push in each piece and then hold the case upside down, and they won't fall out). All of the pieces have good un-flawed shapes...no deformities in any piece. They must mass-produce the heck out of these because otherwise I can't understand how a product this nice can only be $32 (and shipped free!)... If I had to make any complaint, it'd be very minor: the eyes on the horses/knights are a bit shallow, and it'd be nice if they stood out a little more...but who cares...they don't even need eyes at all. (I may take a fine-tipped marker to darken them a bit.) Anyway, I'm happy to sing the praises of this product. It's cool to get something awesome, for cheap, once in a while. Very high quality (unlike my chess game), particularly for the money. The pieces are solid. The board is solid. The pieces store beautifully and securely. Beware that it was shipped it its own box. In other words, everyone who saw the package knew that it was a chess set, even my son who went out to the delivery truck and for whom I purchased it as a birthday gift. He's a great kid and pretended to act surprised when he opened it a day or two later.

Great board!! Love the quality for the price. The magnetic pieces can be annoying sometimes as they tend to stick to the other pieces but i like how they can’t be knocked around easily. The only thing that bugs me is that when you just want to play checkers, you HAVE to take the chess pieces out so the board will sit flat. Otherwise, love it

Very well crafted. The board is sanded very smooth and the inserts to hold the pieces inside fit snug. The magnets hold great for moving the board for long matches.

My eleven year old daughter has been playing chess for awhile now on a inexpensive starter chess set. I feel she is finally ready to graduate to a nicer set now that she knows the basics, as she just joined the chess and garden club at school. We wanted a wooden combo set (chess and checkers) that would travel well, with magnetic pieces that wouldn't blow over outside in the wind or fall over when the board was bumped, wooden board and pieces vs cardboard and plastic, etc. I am so impressed with this combo set!!! I literally LOVE the feel of the wood on this board. Exactly as described. Beautifully made. The checkers stack wonderfully when kinged. Magnets are strong. Simple but elegant pieces. Felt backing on the undersides of all the pieces. The custom cut foam is very heavy duty, expertly cut, and holds all the pieces in place well. Love that the pieces don't bang around while in transit. We have already played many games since its arrival. Such a wonderful Valentine's Day gift.

These wooden pieces feel good weighted by the magnets and smooth to touch. The wooden board is also smooth but has a much lighter side of color of beige/browns similar to the pieces. This board is reasonably priced for the quality.. perfect for beginning to mid level chess players. However, not recommended for upper/advanced skill level gamers.

The product was good and in excellent condition, with all the proper packaging intact. My grandson and son-in-law were very happy with the set and immediately played with it. The only thing I am not happy about it is that we need to take out all the chess pieces in order to play the checkers. It says 2 in 1 game but apparently playing the checkers will not work if the chess pieces are stored back in the board.
