Amazon lets you ask the companies. **Q: Is this both bpa and pvc free? even if kids don't put it in their mouth it can leach chemicals on their hands.** A: No, this is made with PVC. I called Melissa and Doug. The rep said it's PVC - phthalate-free. But then there can still be dioxin (a carcinogen - cancer-causing) VOCs and lead. There are lots of toy foods on Amazon not made with PVC. I plan to buy those. Just ask the companies what plastic they are made of.
