I used the drive to replace one that died in my HP Pavilion dv6780se. I used a Youtube and the HP site to find references on how to replace the drive. It was relatively easy. One thing I had to treat specially was that the new drive did not come with a small connecting "bus" that connects the drive to the computer. This is a small black plastic piece about 2 inches long with some metal fins on it that match the fins on the computer. The new drive did not have this connecting bus, but the old drive did and it was a cinch to remove the bus from the old drive and attach it to the new drive. It just snaps in and out. Once I did that, I could put the new drive in. I stuck my windows 10 thumb drive into the computer, turned it on, and whammo! everyting started working. After windows 10 was installed, I started to restore my backed-up data and my software.I am not a geek but I can turn a screwdriver. Installation was simple and my machine is working better than ever. I am not a gamer, just a person that uses microsoft office. Everthing is running great. I recommend this drive.

Initially there was some confusion in how to install this because you have to use your old hard drive caddy to make it compatible, but there wasn't any instructions included to explain this. They may want to include this basic info in the description of their product. But, after contacting the company they helped me figure it out, and I was able to successfully install it. So far it is working just fine...

The HD I recd is nice and functions well, BUT I should have checked what drive I had originally installed in my laptop before ordering. This drive is a WD blue rpm 5400, my original was a WD black rpm 7200. If you want the exact performance of your original equipment replace it with the exact parts...

I'm hardly well versed in computer hardware, I read the description, ordered the correct sata cable and had it installed in about 10 minutes, formatting the drive was simple to on Windows too.

I don't know much about computers...but a little google research and I ended up buying this when my laptop crashed, I was able to install it easily and fussed with Microsoft enough to send me a recovery disk for Windows 7 for free and it works perfectly.
