Ron Brown's Best Longworth Chuck Type 2 is used for securely holding a bowl, plate, platter or hollow form in order to remove the tenon on the bottom of the vessel. Many turners cut a tenon in the bottom of the bowl blank in order to grip it in a four jaw chuck for most of the material removal both inside and out. You need a way to hold a nearly finished vessel in order to then turn the tenon away so the bottom of the vessel looks finished. The Longworth mode utilizes two 1/2" HDPE disks with opposing slots to move eight rubber button assemblies in or out to fit the vessel like the aperture on a camera. This design allows the buttons to move together in synchronization so the vessel always stays centered on the chuck. It is 100% made in America by a wood turner for woodturners.

This will not stay tight
We have done everything possible to try to get this to work right and it will tighten but then come loose when turning sending your project flying. We got tired of stopping constantly to reset it. Just not worth the effort. We really liked the concept when we bought it - but we were warned by other wood turners that it has issues. We hoped they had solved the problem but no. It hangs on our wall to remind us of the big mistake we made.I hope they find a fix for the coming loose issue because if they do this would be great. But they are not there yet and it is not safe in my personal opinion. Seeing my husband take a bowl to the face was pretty scary. So, if you get this please remember to keep re-tightening your project of it will punch you real fast.I gave it two stars for concept. I really hope they make this a better tool.

Works great
It's been a great help in finishing off the bottom of my bowls. You do need to take very light cuts and make sure your tools are sharp to avoid chatter or torque issues once you take away the tail stock.

It vibrates so much at the edges.
No mater how tight the butterfly nuts are, the disk still slide off. Just be careful and use at a lower speeds
