Fun toy for creative play
My little one loves to play with this toy. He has learned to use the drill and socket wrench type tool. I love the carrying case to keep things organized. Overall a great buy- especially when on sale. And a toy that will be played with for quite a while.

The best gift ever for my two-year-old grandson
This has been the perfect interactive gift for my two-year-old grandson. He enjoyed learning how to use the battery powered drill and screw driver. “Straight and gentle” was the lesson that he mastered rather quickly. We’re still working on understanding how to flip the switch to reverse the drilling action, but that will come soon enough. I wasn’t thrilled with the toolbox, because it was too tightly packed for a toddler to reassemble, so I ditched the toolbox and bought a plastic Craftsman toolbox that easily held the entire set of tools, breadboard, nails, and screws.

Entertaining and educational
The media could not be loaded. My four year old son absolutely loves this toy! He loves using the battery powered drill and screwdriver, and the pull out tape measure. He will sit and play with this toy for 20-30 minutes at a time. He loves having his own set of matching tools with his daddy. The quality is great, nice strong plastic. The tool box is perfect for storing everything when not in use.I love that this toy is fun but also educational, and promotes fine motor development.I have two complaints. First, I think a rubber bottom on the white base would make for a better product. The base slides on our hardwood floor when my sons plays with it. A rubber back would help keep the base steady for little hands trying to use tools.Second, my son gets aggravated with the nails. Some of the nails just go right in the hole without having to be hammered, and some require a little tap with the hammer to go all the way down. He loves using the hammer and would like to be able to actually hammer in the nail a little more than it’s able to.Overall this toy is great. It would make a perfect gift for any little boy or girl! I would recommend this toy!

Fine motor skills at its finest!
Got this for my 3 year old daughter! She is an extremely busy toddler and she loves this and it keeps her occupied for a while! She loves to create numbers, letters and patterns with the "screws and nails".

Just ok
Great idea, but the quality is subpar. One of the drills broke shortly after opening. The nails just drop right in so you don’t really hammer them. And the latch is so tough my toddler needs help to open the toolbox.

Absolutely amazing
This this is so great. A surprising amount of torque for a toy. Endless entertainment. It comes with an electric drill and screw driver. So my twins can play together. It improves dexterity and creativity. STEM toy of the year hands down. Worth every penny. It was a birthday present for 3 year old twin girls and it was a perfect choice. We could not be happier and having more fun. Great toy great fun great job.

Creative, imaginative and educational toy - with bags of play value...
Though this Design & Drill Toolbox from Learning Resources isn't cheap, it does have considerable cross-gender educational play value. It's well packaged and all the items can be stored in the toolbox with its transparent lid. I like the fact that this is depicted with a girl. After all, boys and girls will often see both men and women using real tools - reflective of how life is.All the items are very well made and should prove durable. This is a toy which, in terms of its functionality, goes beyond other similar items as the tools included are useable. Along with 2 building boards, there are 50 bolts in 4 colours and 15 nails. In the set is a hammer to drive in nails and bolts, a wrench - so bolts can be twisted, a working retractable tape measure and my 2 favourites, a pair of power tools which operate using two AA batteries each. First there's a power drill - when it's switched on, you can see cogs rotating inside it. Then there's a power screwdriver which even has flathead, socket and interchangeable heads that can be used on the various accessories. In my view this set is a good quality toy and worth the money. Aspects of it will challenge younger children - relating shapes to each other, testing out what fits into what, learning how to manipulate the various tools and measuring things using the tape, then perhaps going on to write things down which could be a way to engage children at the older end of the suggested age range. This could be writing down and comparing measurements or asking children to describe or write about how they used elements of the toolbox. This is a great set to encourage children to become interested in how things work - as well as to begin to introduce ideas around notions of gender equality. I found this was a toy that made me think creatively too about how to encourage children to get the best out of it. I would recommend it.

Great tool box for little hands, a brilliant toy for learning with
The media could not be loaded. The toy looks very well made, sturdy and realistic with bright colours and a nice chunky feel for little hands. Contains a good selection of tools. It is really good for my son learning how to fit the nuts and bolts together as well as good manipulation development & hand-eye coordination skills for putting them in the holes of the tool box. It also keeps him busier longer than any other toys. He loves it and just loves all the different ways he can play with it. The only small issue is the head of power drill is easy to fall off.I am very pleased with the quality and the size of the toy as well as its functionality.

Really sweet little set
Ordered for my Grandsons, this review was by their Mum:"Two items in this set requires AA batteries and a real screwdriver before play can commence. The box includes:1 x Power Drill (requires 2xAA batteries)1 x Power Screwdriver (requires 2xAA batteries)2 x Drill boards (which clip together to make the 8x8 drill board)1 x Tape measure to 100cm1 x Hammer1 x Pliers1 x Combination Wrench1 x Hand screwdriver3 x Drill bits (socket, Phillips, Flat head)50 x bolts15 x Nails1 x Toolbox1 x GuideThis is a really sweet little set. My son (4yrs old) couldn’t wait to open it. He explored all the different tools, starting with the battery operated ones, they are the most exciting after all! The bolts are easy to drill in but can sometimes stick and need loosening before the drill/screwdriver will take them out again. He has also used his hands to wind the screws in and out which is a great finger exercise!!He measured himself with the tape measure and enjoyed winding it back in again. The nails aren't as satisfying as there’s no resistance so they just pop in without the need to be hammered but the hammer is good for pulling them out. There's a great amount of bolts so the whole board can be filled in an array of colours. My older son (6yrs old) has probably played with this the most though. He has enjoyed following the instruction booklet - counting out how many bolts and of which colour he needs, drilling them in and producing a pattern. He also discovered that the other Design and Drill toy we have (the Firetruck) is of the same build and so the parts are interchangeable. This toy has been played with more than I expected and has ignited some interesting imaginative play.Overall this has been a lovely addition to our toy inventory".

Fun little plastic tool set
I think this is a very comprehensive and well thought out play set. The drills and screwdrivers appear to operate in pretty much the same way as a real drill would work, apart from the fact they take 2 AA batteries instead of needing to be charged or plugged in. They all have interchangeable heads too, which can be used for tightening and loosening the screw provided. The drill rotates very slowly and there's not a lot of force or power to it either, and considering the heads are large and plastic there is little to worry safety wise. The set also includes lots of plastic tools, screws and nails. The tools also included are a wrench, hammer, pliers, tape measure and screw driver. It seems the idea is to use the tools to fit the screws in to the white plastic peg board and create different designs. The screws are all different colours and can be used to create various patterns on the board. I've tested all the plastic tools and they all seem to work. They're all able to tighten and loosen the screws into the board with no problems. As far as I can tell there is nothing to build or construct in the box.One thing that I've found a little annoying about the storage box is that it's a bit top heavy and tends to topple backwards when the lid is open. Which obviously doesn't effect the contents in anyway, but it's just a bit frustrating when I'm putting the bits back in the box and it keeps falling backwards. It really is a great little toy with lots of fun bits. I think it's slightly over priced at £57 (as of November 2021) though.
