Q: What is the inside dimension of this coupler. Is it actually 3 inches?

It is 3" I.D. I was able to stretch it to fit over a 3 1/4" with out too much trouble. (hot water) It comes with a bushing to reduce it to 2 1/2" I.D. also.

Q: can you use this to connect an intake (2.5 in) with the filter (3 in.)? would you say the material is strong enough without falling?

Hi,The material is strong enough for this connection, but bear in mind a few issues:A. weight and mass of the filter will more than likely need to use additional supports to hold it up without slipping,( I use a bungee cord)B. the clamps are usually what loosen due to repeated heating, and this can cause slippage too.

Q: Why can't I use this on a turbo car?

May not withstand the boost pressure or vacuum, if the seller says no, find something else.
