Birds and rats can get in and out without tripping the trap! I had to bend the wire at the top hook where it lockcs and it works fine. I always test it when I leave it. I have caught 12 Racoons...3 feral cats...and one neighbors trap. In the 1079, which I bought, you set the trap manually. I like being able to get the bait inside and every thing done before I set the spring on the door. I don't want my arm cought in it trying to get the bait set. If you are trying to catch raccoons, you will also need something to stabilize the cage. You would be surprised how a caccoon can roll the cage.
