Nice Tortilla Press
I am going to teach my son how to make corn tortillas so I bought this press for him. It appears to be made well. It is very red, which he will love. It is also very light as it is made of aluminum. Compared to my cast iron tortilla press, this one is as light as a feather which is nice.

Does it's job
It's not terrible for a less expensive lightweight press. It does its job. took off 2 stars because the red paint is chipping off after just 2 uses. I found it embedded in my tortillas each use, and had to throw them out. Looks to be coming off at the area where the handle presses down on the top.

Review, do’s don’ts, recipe and ingredient options...
It’s made of steel and coated. I assume everything is food grade? I use wax paper to prevent sticking top and bottom. Use tortilla dough recipe with lard, also purchased from Amazon. I live in the sticks of S. Maryland no Lard to be found in three major National grocery stores?? Or, one local grocery store.Made 3” dough balls using a scale all were 6.8 grams for uniformity. This was my first time making tortillas from scratch. This press allowed me to start the tortillas pressing each one uniformly to about 5” diameter. Then I had to complete them by hand, using a rolling pin. The press does not make them thin enough.I made the mistake of rolling my first attempt too thick; Too thin is definitely better. Also, if they keep shrinking back, mine did, apparently it means you 1) did not knead enough. 2) did not let your dough rest enough. I had a smooth dough so I kneaded well, but should have allowed it to rest more. Next time I will make my dough, knead and make my balls then leave overnight sealed well. Leaving the pressing, rolling and cooking for day 2.The other thing I did wrong, cooked them on too high a heat... who knew, it makes them tough! They were still really good so I can’t wait to let the dough rest and cook on moderate heat. Even not so great home made are so much better than those store bought months old with 25 ingredients.Mine had warm water, flour, salt, baking powder and lard. Some recipes don’t have b soda. I’m a fan of leavening in tortillas so I used it.Don’t use any recipe with less than 3 c flour. 3 c flour makes 10-12 med tortillas, not many. Next time I’m doubling up. All this work...and they get inhaled. And my first time were so so, just wait till they’re awe-some!!I’m a big fan of Olive Oil, my mom was Bengali (E Indian) she made the E Indian version of Tortillas. Same ingredients except half whole wheat flour, no baking soda and the fat used was Canola or Olive Oil (Olive Oil not traditional). They were tender and delicious. I imagine tortillas made with Olive Oil would be equally delicious. Fat is fat calorically but any solid fat has bad trans fats; but unless tortillas are a regular part of your diet I would not worry about making tortillas 1-2 times/mo with lard, more than that, certainly weekly you should use a healthy fat like Olive or Canola Oil. So, do’s and don’ts, recipes, health advice; and product review. Hope it’s useful?? 05/2019: Just read all the poor reviews. Maybe because I use wax paper never allowed the dough direct contact with the press, I never have had any issues with paint flaking? I agree the press doesn’t yield correct thinness which is why you must complete with a rolling pin, but it saves a lot of time. If there is a non metal, non stick, colorfast (non painted) press I would choose that. Especially if it’s something you intended to use frequently.
