These guys are a little smaller than I expected (large side about the dimensions of a USD bill) but they're nice and exactly ss billed. Bonus: On the back is a mark chart for what dinosaur is contained. So far, the skeleton also always matches the toy. That's super handy for avoiding duplicates when handing out two per child. Nice product, geared toward younger sets with the toy quality, absolutely right on the money for the age group - for a teen or enthusiast, you'll most likely want to spend a little more for one of the fossil, claw or more realistic toy kits instead, but it's perfect for us. - - - Update: These are AWESOME. Messy, but AWESOME. The chisel tool is pretty tiny. That's the only thing that could really bear improvement. It's going to be hard for little-little hands and uncoordinated or arthritic hands to hold these. The block is plaster-plaster, not sand. I've seen reviews that suggest water. That's great for cleaning up the skeleton after, but otherwise strikes me as a really, really, really bad idea and a good way to make messy fun even messier. The skeleton inside is nicely flexible, which is great for "oops" while you're chiseling it out. The little background for the toy pops out to make a little diorama for your prizes. Double Bonus - NONE of the dinosaurs in the case pack repeat. There are two that are the same species, but different poses. All in all, I just could not be happier and I may order more of these right away.

I gave these to my preschool kids for Christmas. They were so excited. I also have a 17 year old who had fun trying them out. It really took some work to get to the dinosaur skeleton. This will keep a kid busy for a while. They do make a mess though. I would suggest using a cookie sheet to contain the mess. This will be a fun snow day or rainy day activity for a kid.

I have a 4 year old and 3 year old who love the dinosaur dig type kits. A lot of the other brands are bigger blocks in which you find bones to put together a larger skeleton. These are smaller blocks and the dinosaur skeleton is all in one piece. For the 3 year old this is perfect!! Both kids can do the entire project by themselves. The 5 year old was finished quickly with getting the skeleton out (probably took about 25 minutes), where as the larger kits take him a couple hours (and then a parent has to help put the skeleton together). It took the 3 year old about 35 minutes to get the skeleton out, but both kids where completely focused on the task the entire time. The little dino toys in each box have been a huge hit too. Both kids have been playing with theirs (as well as the skeletons, which you can't really do with the larger sets because the skeleton will fall back apart if handled too much). These have been great, and I will ordering again for birthday gifts for my kids' friends. The only negative is that the included tool to dig the dinosaur out isn't very good, but we used tools from the larger dino kits had previously done (you could also use a plastic knife & paint brush, the block isn't made out of a very hard material).

I bought this for my 5 year old, who had a similar one and loved it. Overall this has been fun for him, but with a few frustrations: The box says "this kit includes a fossil plaster block, mallet with pick tool, chisel, brush sponge, and instruction. 1. There are no instructions. This may seem pretty self-explanatory, but our last set advised you to put the clay block in water to help soften it, which is REALLY helpful with a 5 year old's attention span. 2. Of the "mallet with pick tool, chisel and brush sponge" there is a chisel. That is all. They even show a photo of these on the back of the box. We have now done 4 of the 12 boxes and have received 4 chisels. 3. They don't tell you the dinosaur names. There are photos of the skeletons so you can check off which one you got, but you have to do some research to find their names. Overall this was a good product and I would consider getting it again. However before I do I'd probably look for the item I purchased last time. It was a little better.

Such an awesome Birthday party favor. The kids went crazy for these, even the bigger kids. It’s definitely an awesome item for the price! You don’t need any bag or other items in my opinion, the box it comes in is super cute!

Kept kids busy at a dinosaur birthday party. Even though they were at different stages when we had to stop working, it was easy to package up in a ziplock bag for them to continue at home. Good variety, there were three that had duplicates in the pack, took 6-year olds about 25 minutes to get through it. Very easy for them to use without much supervision. No little brush included, I thought there was, but not a big deal. Do it outside or in a baking tray because of the mess. I’d absolutely purchase again for prizes, goody bags, science class projects, gifts for classmates.

Bought these for my sons dinosaur birthday party favors, they were a huge hit! They come in a cool box and you can pick which dinosaur you want. The box comes with a dinosaur figurine and then a digging brick with a tool. Inside the digging brick is the matching skeleton to your dinosaur figurine! The skeletons are even bigger than the dinosaur figures, and they are really solid and a nice size. I’m glad I had extra favors for my kids to do again some day. I recommend adding a little water to the digging brick to make it easier for little kids to excavate. I would highly recommend these!

There are a lot of these dino fossil excavation kits - a lot of which have mixed reviews- but this set I would definitely recommend. We used them at a 6 year old birthday party and they worked well. It definitely takes a while to chisel away at them, but I felt like it was an acceptable amount of challenge. I found it useful to help kids along by using a small hammer to tap on the included chisel to knock away little chunks from the brick to speed up the process. Just scraping alone would take quite a while to fully free the fossils. The fossils themselves are a little bit rubbery which seemed to work well to keep them from breaking while being unearthed. We did not have a single toy fossil get damaged in the process.
