There is a hook that you can hook on anything (a loop of string around the top of a blind, for example). Not having to plug them in allows flexibility. You get to do a little creative work, separating the strands, and the filaments at the end of the strands. If you want, you can leave them all together, and they look like cone shaped rocket ships. I most often pry them apart into a roughly spherical look. There are also remote controls, which I use primarily for turning them on and off. But there are a bunch of different settings, from slow fades, to fast blinks, to a rotation of all the possibilities. I try to be sensitive to my neighbors. I don't particularly like a lot of flashing lights, so that is just a function I use when I am "showing off" what they can do for somebody. So, they are not expensive, they are flexible, and they are fun.
