Julie Smith Nails It!
Okay, so Amazon needs to figure out how to allow customers to choose more than one of the questions above! In fairness, there were twists AND there were surprises! There were some dark and light-hearted AND suspenseful moods and twists. At times, the pace is steady and fast-- Julie Smith's books NEVER drag! And the characters? Fabulous-- every detail about the Protagonist, Skip Langdon, is carried forward with ease and accuracy. Skip and company are fully developed and complex characters and Smith never fails to link the characters accurately. This author is definitely someone on my REQUIRED READING list!Brava Julie Smith for yet another WONDERFUL book in the series!!

A Trip Back in Time
I'm a "strip reader". When I find an author and a series I like, I read them all from start to finish. Recently, thanks to Kindle Deals, I've gone back and re-read some of my favorite authors. Books like this one remind me of the difference between an accomplished author who takes the time to let characters develop and an inexperienced one who just lays it all out on the first page. This book did not disappoint. Intriguing characters, satisfying plot, and a "taste of New Orleans".

Fearlessness born from frustration
Action never stops as results are not attained, and .more risky action results from the frustration. Another great book in this series.

A book that takes it all in
Nothing is left out of this story. The characters are many, although sometimes confusing. The plot was very intriguing and kept me reading. I have read several books by this author and look forward to reading more in the new series

Really?...God's work?
The Jury haunts Skip claiming to right wrongs that the police can't. After shooting Dorise's husband, She finds herself enmeshed in the tangled vigilante twisted justice. Self-proclaimed Reverend and his loyal followers mete out their own version of justice as the police tried desperately to capture the leader. Dorise's daughter is hostage as Reverend wants an exchange - his granddaughter for Dorise's daughter. And it looks like this won't end well.

Fast, flowing storyline that begs to be read without pause.
Skip is my favorite of all the author's series. Her character is solid yet imperfect. Her heart never let's her pause between saving the innocent ones who get in the way of nabbing the 'bad guys', yet she is relentless in her pursuits. All around good supporting characters who keep Skip in the realm of day to day life. Just great writing!

Ut oh! Another Fantastic Writer!!
This is the 1st of Julie Smith's writings I've read. It is just WONDERFUL! Boy, can this woman weave a great tale!! No spoiler alert, but the ending was quite different from any other books like this that I've read, & I mean that in a very good way. I'm going to have to decide between cleaning my house, or reading her books -- & since I'm retired, reading her books wins!! You'll see... Excellent........but....
Skip is in fine form as a detective and the supporting cast is, as always, human, interesting and fun. It is Jacomine that disturbs me. I know true evil exists and I know it can and does escape the long arms of the law. I find him too arrogant, too twisted, too full of bullsh... to constantly evade Skip. He is TOO lucky to be real and I just don't like the idea of yet more books with him in them.

New Orleans Detective Skip Langdon
I cannot understand why Julie Smith's books are out-of-print in the UK because she is one of my favourites.I have never been to New Orleans but these novels make me feel I know it almost as well as I know LA (another place I have never been but which is the setting for a vast number of novels and films!).If your favourite authors include James Lee Burke or Katherine Forrest (my top two detective writers) then you will almost certainly enjoy reading about detective Skip Langdon.
