Great Product!
I am extremely happy with this 1000 watt Hortilux hps bulb. I switched from the stock "Plant-Max" bulb that came with my hood and ballast as a package. I regret not upgrading sooner as I can see a noticeable difference in the brightness. The shipping was excellent and very discreet. There was no gift option but there was nothing on the packaging that could have indicated what was inside. The bulb was in its box and completely surrounded by packaging peanuts and was shipped very well. The bulb arrived in perfect working condition; I was skeptical of the price because at both of the hydro shops in town where I am sell these bulbs for over 100 dollars. One place they are 120 and they other they are 100 with a 20% discount. The free shipping was fast and I am really happy with my purchase, it was completely worth the money I paid. I would recommend this bulb over any other 1000 watt hps on the market. They are made in the USA compared to all of the other Chinese manufactured bulbs. Do some research on google or youtube on 1000 watt bulbs and check out the comparison tests; in every one of the tests the hortilux eye bulb is the hands down winner. I am a very happy customer.

Works great but be safe & protect your eyes
TLDR; wouldn't use anything else, but get some good grow room glasses and protest your eyes. I checked all reviews on every 1000w HPS extensively and arrived at the conclusion that everything under the $50 or $60 mark is a crap shoot. Too many reviews about receiving used bulbs, broken bulbs, bulbs not emitting the proper amount of lumens, etc. Therefore, I decided to save myself the stress and aggravation, spend the extra $20 and go with this bulb since it's so highly regarded. I had buyers remorse at first, feeling guilty for spending that amount on a lightbulb (!!!!), but I plugged it into my HydroFarm hood, and by the next day saw serious results... so I didn't feel so bad. One thing I will say is my friend and I were wearing sunglasses and he got migraines each time he went under the light, and I have bad eye strain right now from it despite wearing dark glasses and a baseball hat to shield light from coming down onto my eyes So, standard sunglasses won't cut it. You need to get some legit light blocking ones. I've just been staying away while it's on and using a green light so I can go in there while the lights are off and work on the plants. As far as heat, everyone kept telling me how hot this thing was going to get. I have it in a 15x15 foot room and it only raised the temperature 3 degrees. It's on a 7 foot high steel stand hanging from lighting chain, 1.5 feet from ceiling. I was terrified of fires but after testing it is pretty safe as long as it's secured tight like I have it. My hood does NOT have duct hookups, it's just air cooled. I have a 10" oscillating fan on the floor and a 20" fan in the window exhausting 3 feet away. If I put my hand on the hood it takes about 5 seconds to start to get burned. Once the light is off the hood is room temp in around 3 minutes. It is hot standing underneath, like WAY hotter than the sun on the brightest day. Bottom line: wouldn't use anything else, but get some good grow room glasses and protest your eyes.

Great bulbs just make sure you get a good one.
I love these bulbs but! I have received dead ones from amazon in the past. ALWAYS test your bulbs the moment you get them. run them on 100% power for at least 15 minutes to test.

Best grow bulb you can buy!
There is NOTHING better than this bulb - PERIOD! I have used a lot of different grow bulbs. By different, I mean different brands of 1000 wt HPS bulbs. Manufacturers can say what the like, but this bulb performs like magic compared to others. Last year, after a few years away from growing, I began again by purchased a low cost economy complete setup. Ballast, bulbs, lamp hood etc. After I switched my plants from the T5's to the flower area nothing seemed to happen. The plants were growing sort of but very, very slowly. After a few weeks I could barely see any change at all. I checked everything trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. Then I decided to change the bulb. The change was obvious within days. Actually, it was astonishing. Since then I have started using this build throughout the entire grow. No more need for switching from a MH, I just use the Hortilux for the entire grow. I still start the clones and seeds under a T5 for a couple weeks to get them started but I use this bulb for both the VEG and FLOWER cycles. I tried to find out what made this build special and apparently it has to do with the special proprietary gasses within the bulb that only Hortilux uses. Honestly I couldn't begin to tell you how "that' works. The extra cost of this bulb over cheaper ones is definitely worth it. The only thing you'll regret is that you didn't make the change earlier. (the ballast I am using is: Apollo Horticulture Purple Reign 400W 600W 1000W Watt Digital Dimmable HPS MH Grow Light Ballast)

Great light for garage projects..... Not just gardening!
My office is under construction and in our warehouse the company was just going to throw about 100 of these HPS ballast and lamps out. I think they are trying to replace them with lighting that is more efficient. My boss said I could grab as many as I wanted so I picked one up (they are very large and heavy so I couldn't grab more than one). I was looking for something that could light up my garage while I worked on various car projects. When I first set it up and plugged it in I was impressed at the amount of light this thing produced. The bulb unfortunately burned out quickly so I purchased this one and..... WOW!!!!. I might as well be working outside (i'm not even exaggerating). Although I don't use it often (only for detailed projects such as painting and body repair) i did notice an increase in my power bill. I can't say that these will work well in a garden but they are certainly good for a garage......Keep in mind that they also get fairly warm. Since It is winter it isn't a problem but I have a feeling during the warmer temps I will need to limit it's use.
