Only hard plastic. Poduct is applied then residue wiped off. Product will last up to 12 months. **Q: how does this compare to wipe new?** A: I.ve had the renu on my truck since aug2013. It has faded on the bumper. the mirrors look good. I just bought the wipe new, haven't had the chance to use it **Q: What if you apply and it rains shortly there after? Does it require time to cure or will it wash off?** A: Instructions call for residue to be wiped off during application. Rain will not effect and product should dry within 1 hour. **Q: is it only for gray/black surfaces??** A: For anything that's not black, I would use Wipe New. Wipe New is a clear liquid. It works really well and lasts a long time. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ miracle product *by S***D on July 3, 2016* miracle product.UPDATE: 9/4/2016 - still looking great after 2 months. looks like the day I applied it. does not wear off; does not scuff off.note: 'prep work' is the key to a good lasting result.imagine the absolute worst faded, streaked, stained, 'used to be black' trim you ever saw on a car - that was mine, on a 9 year old suv.i tried the usual products one can find in a store or online, but they only last a couple of weeks. i was looking for something that lasted longer - even if it was not permanent. i was thinking of painting the trim, but that can have issues over time.i found this product and read the excellent reviews.bought it.i used a paint prep cleaner (removes dirt, grease, wax, etc.) on the plastic before applying. any product like that would work. YOU MST DO THIS IF YOU WANT GREAT RESULTS!i followed the instructions.wore the supplied gloves.application with the supplied applicator was easy - a little of the product goes a long way.buffed with an old clean cotton towel (instructions said not to use microfiber).came our great. leaves nice solid low glass sheen. easily passes the '5 foot rule' (looks good from 5 feet away), if not even closer.i stored the used applicator in a plastic food bag (as the instructions said) so i can use it again.i only did one side of my suv to se how it looks after a couple of weeks.right now, i am very impressed. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Looks Good So Far *by B***0 on December 13, 2012* This stuff did the job on the faded plastic fender flares of our 2002 Jeep Wrangler. It wasn't difficult to apply but you do have to careful, with strokes in one direction and use of the buffing pad provided to even out the finish after it sets up but before it dries. Application with the soft pad provided does leave a kind of brush stoke in spots, that's what the polishing pad improves.I applied the finish to the flare evened it out a little with the application pad and let it sit a bit while I covered the next flare. Then I went back to the first after the product had been on for 20-25 minutes. You can clean this off an painted surface before it dries and avoid damage but I took the time to tape off the metal fender where it meets the flares using blue painters tape. This is really the way to go, with a little pressure on the flare you can slip the tape between the flare and fender along a lot of the edge. That lets you easily apply this product right up to the edge of the plastic without worrying about messing up you paint and clean up is quick, I let it dry overnight and pulled the painters tape off the next day in 10 minutes.It's a dye so with a super close inspection you can see some flaws but from the usual vantage point the flares look great, with that original dark grey color not a faded almost white finish that made our low mileage, great condition '02 look like a beater. I'm giving fours stars for one reason, I don't know how durable it will be. I'll give it a few months and see if it maintains the refreshed look and post an update. I priced new flares at a little under $200, installed at about $350 (you can DYI but those rusty bolts can be an issue and the body guy only wanted $40 a wheel) so $15.95 and a couple hours of application time sounded worth a try, let's see if it holds up. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ WORKS PERFECTLY! check out my photos *by M***6 on May 24, 2015* OK so I have been looking for a product that would restore the black trim (now faded grey) that is on the side steps and bumper of my 07 Eddie Bauer explorer. It has faded to the point of no matter what trim restore products I have bought at the store ( mothers back to black, meguiers ultimate black, etc) they do nothing to address the fact that the plastic is oxidized and faded..they just add shine..nothing more than what armor all would do. So I basically had shiny faded grey trim in which the shine would wash away first time it rained. I read about this product in consumer reports magazine first and even though pricey at like $21 or so for 4oz decided to give it a try. Long story short..it works..and works perfectly for that matter. My trim looks brand new and after a little over a month and many car washes it still looks perfect. This stuff is very thick..almost like acrylic paint but it is not painting the surface or sit on the surface..it does rub into the trim and a little does go along way. it comes with two sort of cloth buffing sponges that are heavy duty. One you use to rub the product in and the other you buff away any excess after rubbing it in. I cleaned the surface good first before applying and it does say surface must be completely dry but it goes on. Application time is only as long as it takes you to rub it in. I will try to post some more pics in 6 months and some more when I detail my daughters Volvo that has a ton of really faded trim.
