Freaking awesome drill!
Bought this for my son who is an apprentice electrician. He decided to invest in the Makita brand for all of his power tools. I admittedly questioned why until doing a little research. Found out that Makita is one of only two brands that makes their own power tools and they only make power tools. All of the other big brand names have been bought out, consolidated etc. (looking at you DeWalt!) ha. He really likes the ergonomics on the tool and he went head-to-head with a co-worker who has a Milwaukee and was able to drill a hole in concrete almost 2 seconds faster. Impressive! Honestly kind of wish I didn't invest so heavily in Ryobi because I would switch to Makita in a heartbeat. If you're just getting started or looking to switch brands definitely go for Makita! Ps- The belt hook is a nice touch too.

Great Drill
Excellent drill. Weight is nicely proportioned. Smooth trigger control & you can easily control a slow rotation. The additional hammer feature is well worth the upgrade over the version without it.

easy 1 click from clutch to drill setting
Love this drill compact quick switch from drill to cluch without having to twist the clutch all the way around to the max position to drill. just 1 quick click from whatever is your default clutch setting to lock/drill setting. 2 clicks to the hammer drill. Love it

Very good tool!
Used professionally every day for years. The previous unit was only replaced because it didn't survive a 10' fall to a concrete floor.

Another great product by makita
Makita tools help my husband make a living. He has been a loyal customer for over 15 years after switching from dewalt. I am writing this review on his behalf. These tools have incredible longevity. This particular drill is replacing one that was 7 years old and used almost daily. My husband is a construction Foreman so he obviously needs good tools that can stand up to use but also be comfortable to use. I can even use this drill! It's lightweight even with the battery. It seems to be much more efficient as it lasts longer between charges than the drill it was replacing. Makita continues to impress us and we will continue to be Makita users.

Sadly, this formerly wonderful tool has become garbage
Years ago, I bought this lightweight, 18v sub-compact, drill-driver-hammer drill and used it with great joy and productivity for about five years. Superb tool. One of the best of any kind of cordless tool that I've ever owned. But now... different story on this specific model. After about 5 years of heavy use, my first one died (both the clutch and chuck gave out...buy hey, it was lotta use!). So I bought (what I assumed was an identical) a new one in March of 2023. It arrived with a significant grinding noise upon changing from drill to hammer drill, and I foolishly thought, well sure, It's slightly different now but will be fine, just like the first one. But good heavens. Absurdly bad. It only lasted four months of *very* light use and then totally crumped.. unusable, main gears gave out, no point in trying to replace just the chuck (also flaky). So I told myself, every now and then even great manufacturers make some lemons. So I bought a 2nd replacement in November 2023. But the new one arrived with the SAME grinding gears and unreliable chuck (could not tighten all the way). That was the last straw. I returned it before use, and bought a compact 12V Milwaukee drill-driver-hammer drill. (Milwaukee 3404-22 12V Fuel 1/2" Hammer Drill/Driver Kit - $152.00 as of 12/2023) I *really* did NOT want to get into another battery system. But I gotta say, this Milwaukee 12V version is and has remained a dream to use. So much more powerful, robust and certain than my old flame, the Makita 18v subcompact. I'm sad to say that after 40 years of faithful service that made me commit firmly to the Makita 9v, 12v and 18v products, I no longer recommend the Makita *subcompact* 18V tools. My many other Makita cordless tools at both 18v and 12v continue to remain good tools and solid performers. But as of 2023 I'd strongly suggest you stay away from that subcompact line.
