The components are great and the instructions are excellent. A lot ofreplayability. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Between Good and Great *by D***D on December 2, 2018* Cards of Cthulhu is a must-have if you're a fan of Arkham Horror, the Cthulhu mythos, and/or are a solo gamer. This game does shine with solitaire play. Not so much cooperatively. My only gripe with it, and hence the one-star deduction, is that some of the rules are ambiguous. You literally have to make up your own rules for certain things. One shining example is the victory conditions. We know that you must completely go through the cult deck, have less than 5 minions on each board by the end of the turn/game, and have no awakened horrors. But what happens if have one awakened horror while fulfilling the other two conditions? Nothing is said about this, so I automatically rule it as a draw.It's nuances like that which prevent this from being a totally five-star experience. Another issue is that you must refer back to the rulebook constantly to check on the rules for items and followers. What's stated on their cards isn't complete, and you have to reference the rules for a more thorough description so that you're using the items correctly.Overall, Cards of Cthulhu is worthy of getting a ton of plays out of it with high replay value. The expansion, Beyond the Veil, is also an absolute requirement to buy. It adds more to the core game, plus new mechanics.
