North Eastern Motorsport: A Century of Memories

Excellent Book, well researched
The author is a well-known motorsport broadcaster and journalist who has produced something unique with a snapshot of various motorsport venues, personalities, circuits and events over the past century. Supplemented by some wonderfully historic and unique pictures, it's a journey through two, three and four wheels, from racing to grass tracks, trials to speedway, stock cars to motocross and even banger racing! A must-have addition to any motorsport fans collection.

Would have been five stars if publisher had included a basic map
Nice to see this sort of documentation for posterity, especially for these second level circuits and series. But there is no map! Where are some of these venues? A single, simple map would have been useful. Silly oversight.

A brisk romp through local motorsport history
A decent effort , but the book is written in rather breathless 'journalese' ; it needs a good sub editor's services to tidy up some of the text . Not error free (eg Brian Redman never drove for the Ferrari Formula One team ) . But an entertaining description of the local scene , especially on the less popular forms of the sport such as stock cars and speedway.

A little disappointing
This is a very brief look at 100 years of Motor Racing in the North East. Rufforth, while strictly not in the NE, is mentioned in the forward but not the book. The author is puzzled by the location of the the 1940s and 1950s track but a little Googling would have given him the answer.
