Dried out my scalp- but Kitsch’s customer service is incredible.
(Addendum to original review.). So- this shampoo bar did not help whatever weird condition is afflicting my scalp. However- I am giving this bar five stars, because Kitsch, as a company, is providing a level of incredible customer service that has become increasingly rare. All I can say is I now know this company really, really cares about its customers. So- though this product may not have worked for me- I am absolutely going to try other Kitsch products. I am happy to support a company that cares so much for what people think about their products. Again- the product itself was a pleasure to use. And it’s a good buy, because if kept dry, you are going to get a lot of use out of it. My point is: the standards of this company, and the quality of their products, have made sure I remain a Kitsch customer. And I *highly* recommend ordering from them. They are an absolute joy to deal with. Thank you. I always have high hopes for solid shampoo bars. I've tried several, but none of them seem to help with what is going on. Since moving to the Midwest from the West Coast years ago, my scalp has been really dry and, about a month after moving here, a patch of hair the size of my palm just dropped off the top of my head. This hair eventually grew back, but it will not grow longer than about 3/4 of an inch. I've been to lots of doctors and had cortisone injections (I also tried Minoxidil) and tried a million dandruff and anti-fungal and other treatment shampoos, and nothing has gotten rid of the dryness. It's not dandruff- the doctors let me know that. They just don't know what is going on. My scalp almost gets a granular feel to it. I've also tried many scalp scrubs, which provide some temporary relief, but the weird granular dryness always returns. I think the only way I'll be able to get rid of the scalp thing is to move back to live next to the ocean. Financially, that is not an option right now, so I remain stranded in the dried-out flatness for the foreseeable future. The positive reviews for this shampoo bar made it sound effective, and also studies have shown that rice water really can encourage hair growth. The shampoo bar went on sale for Prime Day, so I thought why not give it a try. The bar itself is pleasant to use. It had no obvious scent that I could detect. I found the bar held together, even in the stream of water from the shower. I initially used it by rubbing the bar on my scalp until it foamed up, then used my rubber scalp scrubber as usual. I didn't use any conditioner after the first time, as I wanted to gauge as accurately as possible the product had on my scalp. After my hair dried, I noticed that my scalp was once again covered in a weird layer of dryness. I then applied some leave-in scalp treatment, and that helped, but I realized sadly that it was looking like this shampoo bar was making the condition of my scalp worse. My hair felt fine- it didn't feel "stronger," but it felt clean. It was just that my scalp still felt dry, and strange. The next time I used it, I worked up a lather between my hands, then applied the lather to my scalp, as opposed to rubbing the bar on my head. I let the lather sit on my scalp for at least two minutes, then used the scalp scrubber, then rinsed, then followed with conditioner. Again, after my hair and scalp dried, I noticed the layer of dryness on my scalp seemed a bit worse. The next time I shampooed, I used a clarifying shampoo to try to reduce the layer of crud on my scalp. After my hair dried this time, my scalp was much less congested, and felt much cleaner and refreshed. So-- this product is just not for me. I wish it worked, as I can tell the bar, if it is allowed to dry, should last for quite awhile, and I was hoping to see some growth-boosting effects, as some have. However I am looking for something to improve the condition of my scalp, and this shampoo bar is obviously not working.

Unexpectedly good results!
I was a little skeptical switching from liquid shampoo to a bar, but this one completely won me over. The Kitsch Rice Water Shampoo Bar lathers really well, cleans my hair without stripping it, and leaves it feeling stronger and smoother. After a few weeks of use, I’ve noticed less breakage and more shine—my hair just feels healthier overall. Not to mention thicker, over time! I also love that it’s sulfate-free, silicone-free, and vegan, which makes it gentler on my scalp. The bar lasts a long time and travels easily without worrying about leaks. If you’re looking for a clean, low-waste shampoo that actually works, this is a great choice.

Highly recommend for brunettes with natural hair color
My hair feels so clean after every use. Hair also feels soft. No bad smell. Very effective. Long lasting. Highly recommend if you’re not dying your hair.

Love it so far
Amazing shampoo. It has made my hair look healthier, the smell isn't amazing but it isn't bad. I mean I didn't expect much since it's rice shampoo so I'm okay with it. I did notice I lose more hair with this brand than the rice shampoo from China I normally order, it's just China rice shampoo leaves my hair extremely dry and extremely hard to brush my hair. But the Chinese brand never caused my hair to fall instead it makes my baby hairs to grow. The conditioner is harder to use, meaning it takes longer to get any into my hair. It doesn't lather very well, sometimes I feel like nothing came out. I have long hair and it takes me 4min to completely get some out. But I leave it on for 3min then wash it off. Leaves my hair super soft and my curls loves it. Unfortunately as I'm in houston and having curly hair this won't keep your hair antifreezey, the humidity here is no joke and my hair gets super freeze. Overall I do love it and will continue to use it as it's easier for my travel gig I have to do for work. Update: 7/2024 So after almost a year, my hair hasn't grown any faster than what it normally takes. Conditioner is still hard to get it all over my long hair but it does last 3x more than the shampoo bar, what I mean is that I ran out of the shampoo faster than the conditioner, the shampoo does not last as it claims of 100 washes, equals 2 bottles of shampoo. Maybe for short hair but for linger than neck length it washes maybe 30x before it's gets tiny for long hair (waist length). I wash my hair every other day unless I've sweated from doing outside yard work which is maybe 1-4 x a month, one shampoo bar last me 1. 5-2 months whereas ONE bottle of shampoo last me 3 month's worth of usage with two bottles 6 months. So a little disappointed and I wish they made it thicker for the price, it gets expensive after awhile. I did suffer of dandruff like really bad before using this and this helped so much so I think I'll continue until I find another brand that does the same but a more reasonable price because I ran out way to quickly.

Kitsch. Best bar shampoo ever.
Lathers well, rinses easily. Smells great. Gives my natural wavy hair gorgeous curls. I paired it with Kitsch bar conditioner. My hair sheds less and feels thicker. No plastic packaging. It stores neatly and lasts a long time

Mixed results - hair type: naturally blonde, medium texture & density, very oily
As mentioned in the review title, I have naturally blonde hair, very oily, medium texture and density. I used a pump rice shampoo bottle prior to this and while I did notice the progression to "flat/dull" hair with continuous use, I also make it a habit to use 3 or so different shampoos on my hair in rotation all the time. My hair gets oily within about 5 hours+/- depending on my activities and the humidity outside (located in FL). I don't straighten my hair, I use an ionic blow-dryer and the round brush I use is concave for holding on to medium-to-thin hair strands. I usually wash my hair about every other day unless I have somewhere to go or I've been working in the yard/garden a lot that day. As for this product, the original results were immediate and impressive with the degrees my hair was cleaned, the softness and lack of conditioning requirement. However, it's been a few weeks and only just now am I being plagued with a very itchy scalp. I've never had dandruff, but this appears to have caused a dermatitis response in the last few days. I'll be switching to one of my other shampoos for a while to see if the irrigation subsides. I've used this rice bar for the last 5 days in a row so that may be the cause for irritation. As for hair growth, I don't believe in shampoos which claim to do so unless they are truly medicated treatments w/ specific ingredients to promote scalp health and hair growth. I DID notice a large decrease in hair fall & hair breakage which started day 1. by day 3, I lost maybe 1-3 hair strands during after-shower brushing. By 2 weeks later the hair fall has increased again minimally but this could be from a combination of factors so I can't conclusively say it's the shampoos fault. It should be noted that I also take hair supplements, use an after-wash growth spray (which took 3 months to notice a difference/result, mind you) and as said before I don't apply products or certain heat styling equipment on my hair to ensure health. The itchiness IS driving me insane, so for sensitive scalps (oily, especially), I don't recommend using this product continuously w/ every hair wash, but that's a rule of thumb across the board. Using different shampoos keeps the wash result as desired - literally every shampoo on the market will be great at first, dull with continuous use and perk up again after alternating shampoos are used.

So far I am impressed--and I was skeptical
My daughter-in-law recommended this Kitsch shampoo bar and I reluctantly tried it--I was very skeptical. Her hair looks great, shiny and soft, but she has really thick long hair while I have baby fine thinner hair. I ordered the shampoo bar while it was on a Prime Day deal and thought, well, I'll give it a try - I can always give it to my daughter in law. So Glad I tried it! Lather: For me, this lathered up very well. In fact, I rubbed it onto my shoulder length baby fine thinner hair and it made so much lather, I next time used half the amount. I am used to sulfate free shampoos but was still surprised at how much lathering I had. Number of Uses: This is a more difficult question for me. But considering how it did lather and clean my hair without using too much, I'd say it will last quite a while. One worry would be where it put it in the shower so water stays away from it until I'm ready to use it. I will order a mesh bag to hang it and that will help with that. I love that I don't have a plastic bottle to deal with - great for the environmental aspect! How does it feel as I shampoo?: This gave my hair a 'squeaky clean' feel. For baby fine thinner hair, that can be a good sign. I did worry it would also mean my hair would be stripped or dry, so I used a conditioner on the ends (I did end up purchasing the conditioner bar but for the first few uses I used the conditioner I had on hand). After rinsing: The shampoo rinsed away easily. My hair was also easy to Wet-brush. And after blow-drying, I was very impressed with how silky and shiny my hair was! A marked difference in how my hair was looking the day before. Shiny, silky, pretty hair. Next morning, it still looks shiny and silky. I keep touching my hair - that's how silky it feels. I will note that there isn't a lot of volume - for baby fine thinner hair, if I want volume I'll need to use product. But for body and shine...? Yes! Very happy! My next morning hair looks rather bouncy and cute, still. I'm curious how the conditioner bar will do once that arrives. The way I achieved more volume was by letting the shampoo sit on my hair a little longer and using the conditioner bar that finally arrived - then I blew it dry with my oval blow dry brush. To have my hair look this shiny and silky looking/feeling is a huge happy Yes! Very impressed and happy! I'll keep ordering.

Less Breakage, Better Scalp Health, Zero Bottles
I needed something that actually worked after years of experimenting with different “no-poo” methods. I wanted my hair to feel clean and healthy without harsh chemicals, complicated routines, or unnecessary waste. I had never tried a shampoo bar before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. After years of trial and error with low-waste, minimal-ingredient options, I was cautiously optimistic but didn’t have high expectations. This ended up being the easiest and most effective option I’ve used. The Kitsch Rice Water Shampoo Bar lathers well, cleans thoroughly, and doesn’t leave my hair or scalp feeling stripped. I’ve been using it for over two years now and have completely stopped using liquid shampoo. My hair feels stronger, smoother, and more balanced. I have less breakage, less shedding, and my scalp feels healthier overall. It’s also long-lasting, low-waste, and much simpler than the routines I was using before. This is great for anyone who’s tried no-poo methods, wants fewer chemicals, or is looking for a low-waste hair care option that actually delivers results. Especially good for women dealing with breakage, thinning hair, or scalp sensitivity. There’s a short learning curve if you’re new to shampoo bars. Rubbing the bar directly onto wet hair works best, and letting it dry between uses helps it last longer. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ After years of searching and two years of consistent use, I won’t be going back to liquid shampoo.

Great Product
Love all their products! The Kitsch Rice Water Shampoo Bar is a surprisingly effective, eco‑friendly alternative to bottled shampoo, offering a rich lather and a gentle cleanse that works well for most hair types, especially dry, damaged, or breakage‑prone strands. Its rice water protein formula helps strengthen weak areas of the hair, reduce split ends, and boost shine without the harsh sulfates, parabens, or silicones found in many traditional shampoos.
