Songs From The Great Operettas

Very nice, altho almost too much of a good thing. I had hoped this would contain complete operattas, but just the highlights. Ms. Moffo recorded these at RCA for Reader's Digest, which touted the recording as being done at 30 ips, very high quality for the time. Unfortunately they sound no better (or worse) than the RD LP set...at least we have them in a convenient format. Enjoy!

I have always liked the lightness and clarity of Moffo's tone since I first listened to her on an Angel selection of opera arias. She benefited from her relationships, of course, but she brought charm, prettiness, and talent to the operatic, and conventional, stage during her time.

Anna Moffo really is at her peak here. I've often thought that because she was so obviously beautiful and glamorous, that she never quite got the respect she deserved as an singer and artist. The way she hits the notes here -- she is one of the few singers who could hit the high, high ones and still sound creamy as she did so. While the music is often lightweight here, the artistry is as profound as it gets. Bravo Moffo!

I first heard Anna Moffo on a Readers Digest Album of highlights from operetta (on vinyl) and was captivated by her voice and then when I heard the early 1960's 'La Traviata' on RCA her singing of Violetta was stupendous and this is still my favourite version of this opera. This CD has been remastered to the highest standards and all lovers of fine singing should buy this CD.

Anna Moffo in the prime of her career---and she is STELLAR on this recording. In particular, her performance of "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" is sultry!! Absolutely worth the investment for these operetta selections!! A voice and face of rare beauty!!

Where else could I hear the Sabre Song from The Desert Song? Great selection of operetta arias. Wonderful voice.

Very exciting sound,but not my favorite Moffo.

Anna Moffo(Soprano) was a consumate artiste and brilliant singer in all kinds of songs.I think that there is a person singing to me. Her laugh is something special,(The Laughing Songfrom Die Fledermaus specially). I will always enjoy my recordings, CDS now, of Anna Moffo.She was exceptional. She compered Victor Borge's 80th birthday concert in Wolf Trap and she was wonderful.She had a wonderful career in singing and I am so pleased that I can listen to her many recordings,every one a winner. Many Thanks again
