But if you’re playing catch with your kid, that isn’t a factor. Most gloves are 12” and it’ll work fine for pretty much anything unless your hand is either really small or really big. **Q: How Do You Soften This?** A: The old way was to put 3 balls in the pocket, use a rope to secure it and dunk it in a bucket of water overnight. Let it dry for a few days then use shave cream with Lanolin in it and slather it on liberally. The smaller sizes 12.5, and 12" are definitely geared more for baseball, but for sure could be used for softball. The bottom line is this a great backyard, recreational glove to play catch with or use for some recreational baseball or softball and it is more important to get the size that fits your hand size.
