Wider than Pachmayr grips and great for large hands
I was looking for a good grip for double action, bowling pin shooting. I am 6'3' 225 with med large to large hands. I tried the Hogue finger groove and Pachmayr Presentation and Decelerator. All of them were too narrow or too spongy. The Decelorators might make you a decent hunting/ range grip as they absorb recoil but don't lend themselves to fast double action shooting as well as the Bantams. The width of the Bantams distribute recoil and maintain a constant, firm grip superior to any of the others have for me. They are easily the best grip I have found for a good grip and control in fast double action shooting. A little harder to install but wort it. Beautiful to use but a bit hard on the eye.

Worthwhile upgrade to my Redhawk
I own the 5.5" version of the Redhawk .44 magnum. It came with the hard plastic grips originally. After shooting Hogue Monogrips on the hard-kicking S&W 500 and 460, I decided to get the grip for the Redhawk. It was simple to install, fit properly and vastly improves the handling of the gun. Even after shooting for a while on an indoor range my hands were not slipping. Please note: the Hogue grip, as does the factory grip, leaves the "tang" of the gun's metal handle exposed so that it contacts your grip hand. I realize that it would add some thickness to the grip, but I was a little disappointed that the Hogue grip did not put some rubber over this (improving on, in my mind, the factory grip even more) and further cushioning recoil. I like the curves of the fingers slots and find that they work just as well when I'm wearing mid-weight winter gloves (as the Ruger is a great carry pistol when deer hunting). This grip and the Galco Outdoorsman holster have made the Redhawk my hunting season companion.

Love it
Yes, this thing is a pain to install at first. But once you line up the grooves inside the grip with the slots, it fits right in and doesn't move at all. Very solid, but still easy to slip on and off once you get the hang of it.And yes, it is a big, fat grip. I have medium-large hands and even my fingers barely wrap 3/4 around the thing in some places, especially near the bottom. BUT it gives you a ton of surface area for your support hand, and once you have a good tight hold the butt of the grip fits firmly into your palms. This helps a lot with recoil, and also helps line up your shots better.Overall this is a great grip, and it is perfect for taming the recoil of a 44 mag. Highly recommend.

Know before you buy Hogue grips
First of all, the picture is a Hogue Monogrip Prod#86000, but description is for a model #86050 square grip. On a Ruger Redhawk 45ACP/45 Colt #5050 it has a round Hogue grip prod #86020 totally different!!! and that is the only one you can use of this Hogue rubber grip style!!! I have this #86020 round grip on my #5050(45ACP/.45Colt) and it feels great. On my Ruger Redhawk .357 w/5.5" barrel the square grip #86050 feels very good , over the one that is pictured here! The grip shown in picture #86000 is quite long and is awkward and it takes alittle more time to position your hand on the grip to settle in comfortably. Best is to check out Hogue inc.com website before you order and simplify matters.

Helps with Recoil just not Purty
Fits well. Helps with recoil better than the wood grip does. Factory Ruger Grips look very nice these not so much. Eye of the beholder stuff. Much more comfortable to shoot with however and that is the goal. Makes double action manageable. Book on that by Bob Nichols available on Amazon. Course Redhawk tends to be a bit heavier than comparable Model 29 and that helps too. Nothing wrong with model 29 either have Hogue on them too. Important to read directions on install but once see how it goes on easy to take on and off. If you don't take notice of how the grooves works can be somewhat difficult to contend with. Not to worry You Tube has some videos.

shock absorbing ability?
although I haven't tested this grip yet, overall I can't see how it could possibly absorb more shock than the wood grips it replaced.I was expecting a much thicker material with a wraparound type fit. This grip is very thin material and leaves the frame exposed in a way that,to me,shouts "ouch"! Again I haven't tested it yet so my observations may have no merit,but...once I try it I will submit my findings-if I can still type!ok I got to the range today and my view hasn't changed.. I found the monogrip to have no shock absorbing ability that I could discern-in fact it hurt my hand! Also, hogue claims nothing has to be changed on your pistol to make this grip work but that is not true.I replaced it with a pachmayer presentation grip that I find much more comfortable.my opinion is this is not the grip for a .44 mag.I am removing my 2 star rating to replace it with one star.this is no reflection on amazon as the product arrived quickly.

The type of Frame of your Ruger RedHawk. Square or Round frame. This is for Square.
Received item and the installed flawlessly on my Ruger Redhawk 44 Magnum. Received item fast and brand new. The grip fits Redhawk with the Square frame assembly and came with a small tool that assist in the install by separating sides so that it would allow frame to slide down the frame. Once installed you'll hear a snap when it pops in place. Most easiest grip swap ever and looks fantastic.Important.This is for Ruger Redhawk Square frame Grip.No tools needed but the supplied spreader tool "included".Hope this helps. I'm pleased.

Snug fit, open backstrap
Be ready to spend a few minutes wrestling the Bantam Grip onto the square-butt revolver’s tang. Install the provided “stock pin” disc and carefully work the grip on. (Not made for round-butt grips—consider Hogue’s #86020 Monogrip.) No retaining screws involved, the grip wraps around except for leaving the backstrap open. Grip provides full purchase for my hands (use size Large tac gloves). Changes my model 5001 Redhawk’s overall appearance (with the change from hardwood to rubber), but improved grip control was what I wanted.Note: Product photo (a/o 01-10-2019) looks like Hogue’s full monogrip (#86000), not their bantam grip #86050).

Buy them.
These grips made shooting my Redhawk much more enjoyable. The stock rosewood look beautiful but way to slippery to hold.Installation is easy if you read the directions.
