Can these corbels be installed after granite countertop installion or do they need to be installed prior to countertops?** A: I installed the corbels before the installation of our quartz countertops. They are supposed to provide support and to get them flush with the cabinets/island you should probably do it before. Or at least that is what I would recommend. **Q: do these corbels come with the metal mounting hardware already fixed to the corbel, or must buy separately?** A: It's been a while since I've bought and used these, but yes they have a way to mount them built-in. All you need is screws and to measure precisely where you want to mount them. Keep in mind that they are not one piece but are made of 3 1x's glued together and then shaped. They are made of oak and are relatively nice and easy to mount. We built an island and installed them to hold the overhang - they work great. **Q: Is the 1.75” W nominal? Or is that the actual width?** A: That measurement is the actual width of the item. **Q: How to you read the dimensions? I am mounting something that is 11 inches wide.** A: I made a fireplace mantel out of solid Walnut. 11” at one end 9 at the other. I used 8” x 2” wide. The shelf is heavy so I screwed the brackets into the wall studs.
