SLICK!
Spent a lot of time picking one of these. Very happy I got this Power Tap Grommet. Ultra cool! Remodeling home office and wanted to use the old desk since it is solid and 6 ft by 36 inches deep. It had a filing cabinet drawer on one side and 3 drawers on the other - part of the desk. My kids couldn't both fit at the desk at the same time since the drawers were in the way. I cut back the drawer box/frame on both sides and put the little PC's in there. Put in grommets to feed the cables. And for the final touch I added the Power Tap Grommet. I did not want it to be sloppy so I cut a hole 4" and then used a power rasp on the end of my drill to make it a wee bit wider. Power rasp fits on any drill and costs 3.50. I also had to cut a little bit of the back of the hole out below the surface to accommodate the cords when the thing is flipped open. Used a multi purpose type vibrating tool, like you use to undercut door jams when installing a new floor. Attached an 8-port switch and power strip to back of desk. This plugs into the strip. All wires up and hidden using velcro ties. One of the USB's goes to a PC and the other to a full power charger plugged into the power strip. The RJ45 goes to the switch as do both the PC's. So this baby is great when I need to work on another PC -- got power, ethernet handy. Kids can charge their phones. Only wish they sold a 4.2 inch hole saw or the metric equivalent with it.

Look solid. Description of size misleading
This looked like it was going to be the perfect thing for the new desk I’m building. No more crawling under the desk to plug in power/ usb/ Ethernet! Bought the 4.25” hole saw. Ready to go.But- while the description says it’s over 2” high, it does not mention that the desk top has to be less than 1” thick to work. Only in the instructions do you find this out. So it’s back to hunting for the right grommet. And back to Amazon for these…

The reason for 4 star and not 5 is because the mount is small clips tthey call slimmer doesnt do a good job holding the unit tight so i had to ...
This is my 3rd grommet I have purchased and installed. The previously ones was a different brand but install was about the same. The power tap is an inch bigger in size due to extra plug. The overall power tap quality is decent and instructions was clear. The reason for 4 star and not 5 is because the mount is small clips tthey call slimmer doesnt do a good job holding the unit tight so i had to use glue to keep it in place. The previous one I install have screw on capping that holds the units to the table for a secure fix.

Great product but be sure to get the right size hole saw...
This product is the best I’ve found for a clean install in a small office desk or large office desks. The hole size is a bit odd as you have to read carefully, but I was able to obtain a correct size hole saw off the shelf at a building store that is nationwide. The last install was in custom cubicles (6 to be exact) and gave the workers a plaice to charge there phone and hook up computer or laptop and still not take up much work surface area. When they are not in use, they simply rotate the product closed and it becomes flat like the desktop!

Works with OfficeMax / OfficeDepot Realspace® Magellan Performance Collection L Desk
This works as a great replacement for the OfficeMax / OfficeDepot / Staples branded Realspace® Magellan Performance Collection L Desk power module, was concerned that it wouldn't, but tried it and it works perfect. I replaced the one they provide, because it had no USB and only phone and ethernet. Not sure why they feel phone is needed these days … seriously – 2 USB and 1 Ethernet is much more useful. Just attach your USB to your computer (computer has to be on) OR to your wall outlet IF you want power only through them (for phone charging or whatever) and hook your ethernet up to your wifi router's switch in the back, and you've got yourself some nice desk available outlets to use when needed. Great purchase if you're looking to make your new Realspace desk a bit more useful! :)

Excellent inexpensive upgrade to your desk or table
These are an excellent solution for the money. Installation was simple, and none of the 7 that I installed had any issues. Putting these into the conference tables really cleaned up the cabling. One thing that I added was using Lexel around the opening to seat the grommets and keep them stable. I ran a bead around the inside of the 4 1/4" hole that I drilled and then seated the grommets (don't forget to use the retaining clips). Everything came out clean and the tables are now much more useful.

great product but you will need clearance underneath
This works great at hiding power outlets and is a great price compared to some of the desk power solutions out there for hundreds of dollars. This will last a while but you have to be careful about what is underneath. I had a file cabinet under my desk where I installed this and there was only about 2" of clearance. It worked but I think the cables will get worn over time more so than if there was nothing under there or there had been a few inches of clearance. The wires need a lot of room to rotate.

Perfect desktop addition
Great form factor. Totally love the remote USB ports and the fact that the unit doesn't need to steal knee room under my custom desk like the retractable strips do. I appreciate that the A/C cord is heavy (14 gauge) but I really don't like how stiff (cheap) the cable is. It makes it difficult to rotate and puts a lot of strain on the latches that hold it to the desired side.

Great Grommet, Super Handy, Kind of Awkward Design
I never knew just how handy this grommet would be. Outlets are sparse in my office and my computer has only two usb ports on the front. This grommet allows me to plug my phone into my computer without placing it in an awkward place or wrap the cable around the desk. The outlets are really handy for hard drives that require separate power cords, removing the need to crawl under my desk to find a plug and leaving cables dangling off my desk to be caught on someone walking by. Best part is if you dont need it, it closes up and doesnt take up any desk space.Great item, use it a whole lot.My only complaints are that the mechanism is a little bit flimsy and the way it fits into the desk allows for a fair bit of play if not done just right. The biggest issue Ive had with the grommet is that the way the cables come out of the bottom requires a lot of material to be removed from the desk if its any thicker than an inch or so. This was an issue for me because my desk is a few inches thick and required me to remove a lot of the material around the hole on the bottom to accommodate the movement of the cabling, otherwise it wouldnt fully lock into either position.

Really smart and usefull when setting up desk to bring connectors ...
Really smart and usefull when setting up desk to bring connectors close to hand, wonders for laptops when you don't need to crawl under the desk to plug your adapter. Very decent price too.

Felt like it might break with repetitive use
Not impressed. Was clumsy to operate and had no built-in charger (just USB cords that had to be run to separate chargers under the desk.)The multiple cords hanging out the back made rotation to closed a bit of a chore. Felt like it might break with repetitive use. Having said that, I found that once your desk space is set up, you don't actually close it at all but just leave what ever is plugged in to the grommet alone.
