Our "double-coat" dog has needed this for years, and now he has it!
I am naturally sceptical of advertiser & seller claims for products, but thought we'd give one of these a try for our 13-year old "Half-scale Otter Hound" mutt, who has the same double-thick, oily coat of Otter Hounds and many other water dogs. He's always panting, particularly at night, and wanting to go outside several times a night, even in deep winter cold, to cool off, which is a pain for us, as he needs help getting back up the steps and into the house, due to arthritus. Additionally, he needs a soft dog bed to rest his painful joints, but the bed makes him heat up quickly, so he's continually moving to the bed, to a cool, hard floor, struggling to get up, and panting all the time. We got this cooling mat about a month ago, and he avoided it for the first 2 days, then settled onto it sometimes, and seemed OK with it. Around the 4th day, I moved it to his dog bed, and WOW-- what a change! No panting at all, he seeks it out every time he lays down, and obviously prefers it. Even more, he sleeps so much better, so that in the mornings, despite his tired, old joints giving him a lot of pain, he even RUNS around the yard, and RUNS to meet my wife when he wants to come back in. He plays more with our other 2 smaller dogs, and overall seems a LOT more comfortable and happy. The Green Pet Cooling Mat in his dog bed is HIS Spot, now, and he's learned on his own to get off for about half an hour to let it "re-charge", and then gets back on. I just now bought a 2nd mat of the same brand-- We plan to either put it on the floor or in one of the other dogs' beds--- They used to rotate beds a few times during the night, although these days, nobody else gets "his" bed with the cooling mat. I have heard the other dogs "digging"/"scratching" the fabric the middle of their beds sometimes, just like he used to also do, and I think it's an instinctual canine reactionj to being "too hot", i.e., "digging down to cooler soil", so we'll see how this goes. If it goes well, we'll probably order a Small cooling mat for our smallest dog. The mats seem quite durable, aren't nearly as heavy as some make them out to be (my wife has severe spinal stenosis and bad arthritus, and she said to leave word in this review that she has no problem at all handling them. My only regret is that we didnt get some of these years ago. A very good product, and it seems well-made, to last a very long time! FOLLOW UP, about a week after I posted this item, above: We received the 2nd cooling mat, and right away put it in the "medium-size" dog bed, normally preferred by our 3-year old Corgie-Lab mix. She avoided it the first day, although our "big" dog that we bought the first cooling mat for, went for it right away, switching back and forth from each cooling mat-equipped bed, as needed. The 2nd night, our Corgie-Lab mix finally discovered what it was all about, and now, if not sleeping on one of our laps, prefers to sleeping on "her" mat atop "her" dog bed. So, now I have 2 dogs that love these cooling mats. Our "little" dog, a Jack Russell-Shi Tzu mix has a thin coat, and thus looses body heat easily, but I suspect as summer comes on (this is 13 May), we might buy a another mat sized for her, as well. Suffice to say that our dogs seem to really like this product, and I can heartily recommend it. P.S.: When the dogs go out to the back yard, to chase squirrels, bark at passing dogs, or do other "Dog Stuff"-- I've learned that picking up each mat and holding it up vertically so that both sides get air helps cool it off quicker, so that even if they're outside for just a few minutes, they return to a cold mat. The original mat we got for our "big" (actually only 85 lbs) dog is still large enough for him to sleep on half of it, then roll over to the "cold half" for more comfortable sleep. Although he has still panted for short periods, at night on it lately, mostly he just dozes off and snores for hours at a time-- a refreshing change from having him panting and moving around restlessly all night before we got the mats. Some reviews of Dog Cooling Mats suggest putting the mat into the refrigerator, but I think that would be far too much cooling in a short time-- these things are cold to the touch when you pick them up-- and the object is to slowly draw off the dog's body heat without over-cooling it, and they do that very well. We're quite satisfied.

Helped cool down my dog from Cushing’s disease
I bought this for my sixteen year old dog who developed Cushing’s disease. He would pant excessively from overheating. He got used to this cooling pad real quick. At the time of this purchase all we wanted was to make sure he was as comfortable as possible. Sadly, we put him to sleep about seven months later. He had other medical issues as well. However, this cooling pad along with another from another brand did its job. Why buy two different pads? Well, we were panicked and we just wanted fast results. We could have bought one and tested it and maybe buy another, but we didn’t want to wait the days or a week to test effectiveness.

Works Really Cool!
My 80-pound heeler mix absolute love his cooling pad. It's heavy, so it tends to stay put and not slide around too much. We put it at the foot of the bed. He gets so hot at night, especially during the summer, with his heavy coat and undercoat, so it's nice for him to have a cool place to rest that is his. When I first got the mat, I didn't know how it worked. The gel inside was squishy, but I didn't particularly feel any 'cooling' effect. Then I put it down on the floor and put my feet on it. It wasn't long before I could feel exactly what the mat does--it not only began to feel cool to my feet where they touched it, but it literally felt like the mat was pulling the heat out of my feet. We played with it for a while. If you lay on it in one spot for some time, it does eventually get warm, but just roll over to another spot and it's all cool again, and usually the warm spot is cool by the time the new spot gets warm. You can feel the warm on the bottom after you've been touching it for a while. To reset it, all the doggie has to do is just get off of it for a while and let it get back to normal room temperature. but even when it's not 'cooling' as much as when it's full 'charged', it's still a good, soft mat for the dog to lay on. The one and only downside we had is that we also have cats who like to claw--do NOT let your cat puncture this mat. It will leak some of the gel and it won't work any more. However, it DOES work with a cover on it. So we made our own cover with an old sheet, like a pillow case for it, and put it over it, and haven't had a problem since. Cleaning the mat is as easy as wiping it with a sponge or cloth. The one time it got really dirty from muddy feet, we just took it outside and hosed it off and let it dry. We've used it outside on the back porch when we were swimming to let Jake the Dog cool off while he was drying off from the swim and we've used it indoors as his mat to sleep on at night. He seems to really love it. At one point, he even dragged it into the living room so he could lay on it in there, but we had to tell him to stop doing that. I'm considering getting another one for him in the living room, since he loves it so much! I'd love a possible cover for it, a lightweight one like a pillow case, if the company would make one to fit it. And I wouldn't mind a size larger than the large one... Jake is an 80-85 pound dog, and he fits on it, but when he sprawls out, his paws aren't on it still, and that's where a dog 'cools' considerably... a larger mat where he could sprawl out and still be on the mat completely would be nice for outdoors.

Go and getcha one!
This is Farah. She is 18 lbs and a Corgi /Pom mix so she’s on the longer side and lots of fur . This is her second pad. For us one pad lasts about 2 years. After time and use with the warm conditions, I notice the pad starts to break down and “shrivel”. We live where it’s very hot with almost no true spring or fall-just heat. This pad is amazing and in 2 years I’ll buy another. It keeps her comfortable and the cooling sensation keeps giving even while being on it for an extended amount of time. The surface of the pad is smooth but if you lightly run your nails on it, it makes a scratchy sound so we use a pillow case to cover it. She would not use the pad if it made noise. The coolness comes through the pillow case very well. I do have to mention it’s odor free, durable, washes off easily, and fits her entire body even when spread out. The pad is easy to fold in half and in half again if you choose. We do travel with it.

Cooling mat is magic!
Our doodle runs hot since he was a puppy. I found this green pet cooling mat and took a chance. Well after purchasing 3 xl mats I’m definitely a return customer. He loves the cooling effect and lays on them in each room! They are very durable and hold up well!

Im in Sydney, Australia and bought a medium to put on the bed or couch for my Maltese to lie on. The size is portable, she can lie most of her body on it but I wouldn’t have gone any smaller. It looks just like the pictures and arrived on time. It’s cool to the touch but warms up very quickly (maybe after less than 2min?) I don’t think there’s much difference between how quickly this mat or any other surface would warm up. On very hot days the mat is hot when indoors (same temp as the air). Lying directly on the floorboards is much cooler than this mat. Unfortunately it doesn’t perform anywhere near as well as it claims to. I was tricked by the positive reviews.
