First, I'm a basic and frugal coffee drinker. I only go to coffee shops for special occassions. I drink maybe 5oz of half caff or decaf, some hazelnut creamer, filtered water, and Im set. I hate k-cups. I like more grounds for a richer taste, and they never cut it. Im buying them constantly for a blah cup. No more! I'm no coffee connoisseur. Ive had this machine (bought refurbished) for two months. I make a small cup of coffee a few days a week, have only brewed on the "bold" setting. I really like this coffee machine. It's easy, I love being back to grounds and portions I can control, the tank meets my needs, and I've had zero leaking issues. The drip pan is very shallow...really not a drip pan, so that maybe an issue vs true leaking, for some. It's does splatter the tiniest bit with brewing, but...it's a non-issue for me, I just keep a paper towl there, wipe down as needed in the week. I would like a more mid-range portion option, too, but it's literally never been an issue. I seldom finish a full 8oz (once I add cream) cup anyways. It looks nice, no noise, saves space, coffee tastes VERY good to me, easy to clean, filters are great...really this couldn't be a better fit for me. Simple and satisfying. The Kuerig went out the door, along with the last of the kcups no one wants to use anymore. The Scoop takes the win!

I previously owned two Hamilton Beach single scoop machines - the original model. I gave 1 away after receiving a Keurig as a gift. Then I bought a second machine to replace the Keurig, which I hated, because I resented storing the pods and didn’t like their taste over loose grounds. When it finally started to fail, I was going to replace it with the same machine again. Fortunately, I found this upgraded model and I couldn’t be more pleased every morning! The water reservoir is a wonderful feature. It doesn’t hold much, but it is a delight to have the water ready to go without filling it before each use. Since I can move the reservoir to the tap, it is much easier to fill than the old machine. The flavor of the coffee is top notch, so much better than the old machine and 10x better than pods (nothing fancy, just Foldgers). The coffee is hot. It brews faster than the old machine too. The filter basket is a tad more difficult to rinse, but it only takes a few extra seconds to clean. I would buy this again without hesitation and give it as a gift.

The Scoop does exactly what it is supposed to: brew a cup of coffee effortlessly. It leaves the details to you, for both good and bad. It has a mesh coffee ground holder that doubles as a scoop, but I use an actual scoop to fill it since if it's wet grounds stick to it. So your first detail is how much grounds to add. I usually do about 2/3 of the way to the Max line. You can also control via the Bold button how strong you want your coffee brewed - for me that's always on. Not because of anything wrong, just I like strong coffee. I rinse the mesh scoop every time before I fill it. Though I admit I've made two cups in succession with the same grounds and they came out fine. Under the mesh scoop is a second filter to catch any overflow. Every couple of days I rinse this. I still occasionally get some very fine grounds in my cup, I'm going to try a slightly more coarse grind when my current coffee runs out. I dislike filling so I have The Scoop with the 40oz reservoir. Here's another detail they leave to you while you pick 8oz or 14oz size if there is less water than needed in the reservoir it will just make it with that much. For The Scoop without the reservoir that allows you to easily make a half cup or whatever. I'm replacing a Keurig and used to an alert if there isn't enough water, so the first time I made a partial cup was a bit of a shock. Now I just need to keep a watch on it. The reservoir just lifts out, easy to fill and to clean. I usually just flip up the lid and fill it while still connected, a habit I had already gotten into with my previous coffee maker. Where you place you mug is either full height for travel mugs, or has a flip down to reduce the height. For my admittedly tall coffee mugs the flip down is just a touch too small, I wish it was adjustable. I just use the lower position but I wonder if I had the windows open and there was a strong wind if it would end up splattering. There is a small area under the grill to catch drips - I haven't had a chance yet to see if it detaches for easy cleaning or not. All in all it makes a nice tasting cup of coffee at a good temperature, and does without fanfare or complicated options. This review is after about a week of use, I don't have the experience yet to talk about long term issues. 6 MONTH UPDATE: What I've written before holds true and I'm quite happy with it's continued use. I have discovered one other negative - if I'm doing a bunch of cups and the second mesh gets clogged, some water/coffee will spill out of the top and drip down the sides. Easy enough to avoid if you make sure to clear the second mesh regularly, but if you have people over and try to make a bunch at once it's easy to overlook.

I got the 40oz reservoir version of the SCOOP and find it totally great. Much better than k-cup if you grind your own beans. I got this about 2 months ago and I drink 2-3 cups a day so, it has been well worn in. I buy whole beans and have a small burr grinder. I used a classic Keurig and used the refillable cartridges for several years. The Scoop is much easier to fill and clean between cups. The main scoop fits into a secondary screen filter and both are easily removed for cleaning. The reviews that people are unaware of the secondary filter are just ridiculous, it usually slides out when you lift the scoop for cleaning. The scoop has a sturdy handle that you can use to bang on the side of your kitchen trash can to remove the grounds and a simple rinse under the faucet and you are good to go with another cup. I rinse the secondary filter daily under the faucet and slide it right back into the feeder hole, very simple. I use a heaping tablespoon of coffee for an 8oz cup. I admit I have not used the 14oz, because I drink my coffee from a mug and don't like to reheat. The Scoop coffee is a somewhat hotter than the Keurig and I like this. I used the "strong" setting a few times and it takes longer to brew 8oz cup and I really didn't notice a taste difference. The strong setting basically slows the water drip through the grounds leaving more time for water to pick up flavor. There has never been a leak or overflow. I can imagine an overflow if you pack the scoop to the top with grounds, but the instructions clearly warn against doing so. I get good strong coffee every day with no strange tastes. There are many reviews that specify a plastic taste. I think I have very sensitive taste buds and I have never tasted anything but coffee from the Scoop. One negative... If you don't use the second tier flip down platform for a coffee mug, you will get coffee splatter, and quite a bit. I regularly use the flip down platform and it fits most of my larger mugs, but I have to angle them in to fit under the drip nozzle. This results in no splash. I don't use tall travel mugs, but if you do, I don't see a splash problem if the top is within 3 inches of the drip nozzle. One more negative... The base doesn't have any volume to catch drip and if you forget to put your cup under the nozzle when you start a brew, you will have all of it drain on your counter and floor. The Classic Keurig base will hold 8oz if you forget your cup. Another miner annoyance is that the Scoop has some residual drip after you remove your cup. I put a folded paper towel on the base to absorb the few drips rather than have to wipe the base. Overall, great coffee, easy to use, clean and fill the 40oz reservoir and it takes up less space on my counter. This is a great coffee maker, especially if you grind your own beans.

I bought a used, very good or good model. I cleaned my current pot and put it away. I open the box and it's missing the 2 pieces that you put the coffee IN... so unusable! So disappointed. So I ordered a brand new one... I pray this works as well as most reviews say it does. I drink coffee all day.. and I end up wasting lots of it! I hope it works well and holds up.. will save me $ as I do throw coffee away. I hate nuked coffee! I did save over $20 by purchasing a used model. Too bad it was missing the most essential parts! Edit: ordered a brand new one. Received yesterday. First thoughts: Very small footprint, looks nice. Easy to use. Love the water tank. Immediate cons: drips .. a lot. Even if you leave the cup under. I think the set up of 2 sieve's is the issue. I bought #1 filters and they are too big. Not sure if they would work if I cut them smaller. I have large mugs and the flip down is nice. Some of them barely fit. I do wish there was more than 8 and 14 Oz. A 4 would be great. For my mugs, 8 is too small and 14 is too large! I am having a bit of trouble getting the amount of coffee correct. I tried more coffee with the 8 oz; put on bold and it doesn't do much. Wasn't tasting as good as a regular coffee pot. I drank most of my 8 oz this morning and put another 8oz in again. I don't see where the bold button does much. The buttons are nice and clicky. I grind my own beans so I've just taken a spoon and placed the coffee in the pod. Spilled a bit. Might need to take the pod out to fill. Rinsing the 2 pods is fine... I'm hoping there are replacements. I do think this machine is nice. I drink lots of coffee and as one person; sometimes I dump some of the coffee. This machine saves on my coffee. For the few flaws; such as the dripping; it's still nice and well made! I would say wiping up the dripping - some water; some coffee .. is annoying. So I find myself constantly wiping it down. I still recommend it! The water tank is a definite plus. There is another one on Amazon that also takes pods. Well in that case- just get a Keurig. I don't like those so I didn't want a glorified one of those! This is the one to get- grounds only! So it's a bit high maintenance but not enough to take away from the overall convenience... and in my case; savings. It makes a cup relatively fast! I did try the 14 oz with my Rammstein metal cup.. perfect! Update: returning. The dripping is crazy- it's almost like a leak. The bottom filter holder holds water. The grounds stick in the top holder; so constantly rinsing it out. 2 -3 cups in morning; lots of cleaning in between because the filter parts are wet. The bottom of my cup looks gritty. I'm not overfilling the holder. Constant cleaning of the plates.. I keep wondering where all the water is coming from. Not overfilling the tank either. The idea is great; execution- not at all. Sad because I like the idea of it; just a constant mess to clean the thing due to leaks!

I owned the original Hamilton Beach Scoop for years and loved it. When it was discontinued, I was disappointed. I considered several alternatives because this new model costs more than I expected, but none offered the Bold brew option, which is a must-have for me. After using it for two weeks, I can honestly say this is the best coffee maker I have ever owned. It exceeded my expectations. What I love most: Appearance: Sleek, modern, and thoughtfully designed. It looks great on the counter. Speed: The new pump brews coffee in about half the time of my original Scoop. Filter: The double fine-mesh filter works perfectly. Great-tasting coffee with no paper filters to buy. The only negative: Some of the plastic parts feel a bit delicate. I simply wash those pieces carefully by hand, and it has not been an issue. If you loved the original Scoop, I think you will love this one even more. I highly recommend it.

I really like this coffee machine however I do agree with the other reviews that it spills. I have to knock 2 stars off for this. I tried to troubleshoot myself and read the manual on how to prevent spillage. It still spills. It also says in the manual if you drink decaf, it has a high chance for spilling. So just note that before you buy. If the coffee is grounded too much it spills according to the manual. I am looking to buy another coffee machine due to this. I keep it on my desk at work, and I can't be having coffee pouring onto my desk. Everything else about this is great. The coffee is at a good temp, it holds a decent amount and is pretty quiet. Only if it wasn't leaking out every other cup this would have gotten 5 stars.

I ordered this after our one cup stopped working. It brews an 8 or 14 oz cup of coffee perfectly. the coffee is strong without being bitter, the machine is quiet, the coffee is hot and stays hot, and I like the water reservoir on the back, no filling with every cup. The new model looks stylish on my coffee bar and it does not take up much space. It's also easy to clean. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

We've now had this coffee maker for coming up on three years and it still works great. It's made hundreds of cups of coffee without fail and without the need for disposable coffee capsules or filters. The trick is to quickly rinse out both the inner and outer permanent baskets between use to get a good fresh tasting brew. For my liking I prefer to make the 8 oz size which requires about 2/3 of the basket filled with coffee. For making the 12 oz size I go to the top of the screen of the inner basket. It's proven reliable, continues to make a good cup of coffee, makes a cup reasonably quickly, and has two size selections that fit common mug sizes. Additionally we've eliminated paying for and generating a lot of unnecessary waste. From extensive use my opinion is it lives up to it's promises.

Makes the best coffee one cup at a time. No need for filters.

I like this coffee maker , but would of love if had more coffee levels instead of 8oz 14oz , coffee hotter then my keurig. I'm please over all

I like the fold down shelf that raises up my coffee cup and prevents splashing. The Scoop filter is easy to clean and no paper waste. Coffee is hot. The Bold feature gives great extraction. I would have liked a 10 oz button (there is and 8oz and 14oz). So I just fill the water reservoir with 10oz of water, use the 14oz setting and press the brew button. Fills my cup perfectly.
